In the wake of the HSUS Chino slaughterhouse investigation, several members of Congress are now calling for video cameras to be installed at slaughterhouses.

Please urge your representatives that you support this legislation for the benefit of the animals and food safety.
We the undersigned urge Congress to implement the installation of more inspectors and video monitoring in slaughterhouse facilities throughout the U.S.

Downer cows have been an issue with the USDA, consumers and animal welfare interests for quite some time.  Installing these cameras will further insure that rules and laws already in place will be upheld.

Thank you.

Please do this for the animals. I new this kind of thing went on but for me it was one of those "had to see to believe" things. I have seen and now because of what i have seen i am now a vegetarian. I will save 100+ animals evey year from this kind of treatment. they live their whole life in horrible conditions and treated like we are at war with the animals only to be killed anyway. We pay taxes on this food take a little bit of that money and pay to enforce these laws and put camera's up. Now because i have decided to become a vegitarian i now spend less at the store and i pay less taxes. So in the long run if more people do as i do the US will lose money not gain. Why do this? they have feelings, they feel pain. You can get in trouble when you hurt dogs or cats why is it any different because humans eat this stuff? Think about it. And the next time there is a peice of meat on your plate or you drink a glass of milk think about the pain that animal went throught to give you that. Is it worth it? We can stop this now lets do it!!!!!

I started looking into slaughter because of the horses. As I watched videos of the horses being slaughtered, I couldn't help thinking that if they treat horses this horrible, how are they treating the cows, chickens, etc? I have been emailing the Canadian gov't as well to have cameras installed. It is a must as the gov't cannot seem to enforce their own rules! I am a meat eater, but have vowed to reduce my consumption. I had my first veggie burger today, and it was good!

Help put an end to the disgraceful and sickening animal torture that some choose to ignore.

I HATE THAT THEY HAVE TO DIE SUCH A CRUEL DEATH, GROWING UP YOU JUST THINK THEY GET PUT TO SLEEP OR HUNTED OR SOMETHING, BUT THATS SO NOT HOW IT IS, THEY GO THROUGH TREMENDOUS ABUSE THAT NO LIVING CREATURE SHOULD HAVE TO EXPERIENCE!!

I find it disturbing that we continue to sacrifice the humane treatment of animals and the safety of our food system in the name of profits and politics. How sad that our government (and many a consumer)turns a blind eye to these atrocities that occur every day in slaughterhouses across the country.

ANIMALS SHOULDN'T HAVE TO BE USED FOR THEIR MEAT. PEOPLE SHOULDN'T HAVE TO ABUSE THEM BY EATING THEIR MEAT!! IT MIGHT SOUND PRETTY WEIRD TO MEAT-EATERS, BUT THIS STUFF IS CRUEL!!

Thank you for considering the use of video cameras in slaughterhouses. I've recently started volunteering at a dairy farm and have witnessed physical abuse 1st hand. I have serious concerns about the plight of farm animals behind closed doors.

Cruelty twards beef and or dairy cattle must end. It is unacceptable for these abuses to continue. The first step in ending this terrible cycle is to install cameras in all slaughterhouse facilities.

So much unnecessary suffering occurs in slaughterhouses, because existing rules are not enforced. It's sad that people need to be guilted into doing the right thing, but if fear of being caught is the only way to get these animals humane treatment, then so be it.

We need cameras to document all aspects of man's industrial nature, slaughterhouses are no different ... that's bottom line ...

Please reconsider this law. We all know what goes on inside these places. The people who run slaughterhouses are criminals, plain and simple. If these animals have to die, at least let them do so under humane circumstances. I don't beg often, but please, this is serious. Do you want this on your soul?

If no abuse is occurring than there is no reason not to have this bill passed. I think it is a disgrace to the animals and the people who consume food not to take these simple safety measures. ~Karen

There needs to be regulation of what is happening to these poor animals.
