is to make the American government let the following countries:

Sponsor: Witold Wolkowski

Addressee: Congress of the United States of America

We, citizens of the following countries: Cyprus, Czech-Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovak-Republic, and also citizens of the USA, direct this petition to the American Congress requesting equal rights in regards to the visa regulations.

We, the undersigned - as “citizens of the world” (referring to the quote of the great American president John F. Kennedy, “My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man.”) - direct this petition also to our government, it means to the governments of: Cyprus, Czech-Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovak-Republic and USA, so that they act together on our behalf as new citizens of the European Union to jointly start negotiations on the international level with the government of the USA.

Right at the present moment - after the crash of communism in Europe (out of these 9 countries, 7 are countries where people can finally enjoy democracy, this democracy that America supports and defends so firmly) - is the best time to achieve such relations between countries as they would have been if not the iron curtain raised for 50 years when the world divided into two blocks - one democratic and free, and the other one living under the soviet heel. Now is the best time to achieve a situation when these new citizens of the free world would have an opportunity to see with their own eyes what was forbidden for them for a few decades - a country which through its politics of the eighties significantly contributed to the falling of this curtain.

Knowing each other and learning each other’s history would certainly help to straighten our feeling of security in the world where lack of a real knowledge about average citizens of other countries - very often their neighbors - makes it possible and easier for some countries to convince their own citizens that they should take various actions causing harm to the people from other countries.  Lets enjoy our freedom that we have had a chance to get in our life. I personally enjoy it and I thank America for my freedom and for accepting me as her citizen. This is an honor for me and for my family. From the moment I was nine-year-old, and at the same time from the moment when a great president, J.F. Kennedy, a big dreamer with a great vision and a freedom defender unexpectedly departed, I have been fascinated by America. I have been always under a big impression of this man. Now, I can do something that corresponds with his famous quote, “And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you --- ask what you can do for your country.”

I, Witold Wolkowski, as a citizen of this country - America - do it for my country. Taking advantage of what I have learned in my life - mostly here, in USA - and also following the principles I adopted from my parents and from my fellow-citizens here, in my new homeland USA, as the first one I am signing this petition.

I am asking people of good will to sign this petition. Only together, only acting solidarily (that’s how communism fell, first in Poland and then in Europe) we can achieve the goal this petition is supposed to serve. Signed,

I have lived in Poland for the past 9 months as a teacher and I think that it is horrible of the United States to allow other countries that are not half as supportive of our great nation as the Polish are in without a visa. Please start to see that we need allies in this world and Poland is a rising nation with wonderful people. Please extend them the same courtesy that they extend to us!

After attending three conferences in the USA, I have three USA visas for one week visits. The USA needs to allow international travellers to attend conferences and holidays in the USA without the need for a visa. Perhaps the USA's intention is for us to go to a country that wants our tourism money.

I think that it would be fair if US government offered visa free travel for those countries based on the fact that US citizens do not need visa to visit any of those countries and it is just not fair that you are treated differently based on where you are coming from.

I feel that it is unfair to single out these countries. I think the free-travel policy should be reciprocated from the U.S.

I saw tears of my daugther when her American boyfriend came and visited her in Poland, and then when she wanted to go and visit him in Alaska, she was not allowed to enter US... Very unfair treatment.

It is very difficult for me to find a partner of the same religious background and beliefs (which is a 'must' condition in a relationship to me) in my country, and even in Europe in general, as such people are a small minority, unlike it is in US... Most men I have met and liked who shared my worldview and beliefs were from the States... I do not want a job or life in US. I want to have an equal right, if I meet a person and have a relationship with them, to be able to freely visit them wherever they live without the fear of my want being hindered by some Immigration Office regulations...

I just returned from a visit to Poland. As a US citizen A visa was not required. I do not understand why visitors from one of our faithful allies need a visa to visit the USA. We should recognize and support our friends.

Please immediately remove the Visa requirement for Polish citizens to visit the USA! US Citizens do not need a Visa to visit our polish friends in their country, so why do Poles need a Visa to visit America? Poland is one of our strongest allies - get rid of the Via requirement!

Canada has already this program of visitors without visa for selected countries fron Europe. Why can we do the same thing? Are we that special or different from our neighbors of Nort America?

Did you ever go to Disneyland? It's a famous amusement park in the US visited by millions of people each year. To get inside the park you need to buy a ticket -- this ensures that your experience in the park will be pleasureable and you will have an opportunity to see and do everything the park promises. Also, once inside the park you need to wait in line to be sure that everyone is able to enjoy the rides equally. If there were no lines then the strong and healthy would push the weak and frail aside. The USA welcomes millions of immigrants with open arms every year. Without a steady influx of immigrants our country would not survive. However, like visiting Disneyland, you need to wait in line so that when you do visit you can enjoy all of the pleasures promised by this great country. A lot of people like to say bad things about America because they don't agree with our government policy. Believe me, 80% of the people in this country don't agree with our policy either. But rest assured, things will be different in a short 18 months when a new government administration will assume control and (hopefully) we will be back on track. Have faith. If you truly want to become an American (or just vist), we would love to have you. Just have some patience because about a billion other people are in line as well...

I am a Hungarian immigrant. I am educated, pay taxes and I consider myself an upstanding citizen of the United States. I believe that Americans--particulary, White Americans--have a fear that people from other countries--especially from poor countries, or where the general population is other than White--are coming to invade us. This fear of the "other" stems from a long standing prejudice that has been embedded in our society. Would immigration ever be an issue if people came here from England? This country is made up of immigrants, and some of the most incredible, hard-working and succesful individuals today ARE immigrants. Although, this petition is not about that. I, like millions of new immigrants came to the United States leaving our entire family and friends behind in hopes of a better life. I don't think it is too much to ask our government to allow people from the above countries to visit us freely. Its time that we stop discriminating and allow equal opportunities to people visiting our country regardless of geography, skin color or social status.

I believe that citizens of these countries should be eligible for the visa waiver. If there is concern, you can still do an interview process but unless there is a valid reason such as a criminal background each applicant should be granted the opportunity to visit america and not be penalised due to their nationality. I am an Irish resident and my boyfriend is Polish. I want him to meet my brother, his wife and my niece and nephew. I also have close friends in america which I would like him to meet. These reasons were all made clear on his application for a holiday visa but he was refused. He is 32 and I am 27, we are at the age where we are looking for security not an illegal underpaid job in america. We just want to visit my family and friends. I feel its important he meets them. For genuine cases, there should be more consideration given. And if they do not have the time to do that with each application than yes, there will have to be eligibility for citizens of the aforementioned countries to visit america. They've taken the risk with other countries, Polands'economy is on the up, its now time to respect the fact that the citizens of these countries don't necessarily want to chance their luck in america. They simply want a holiday for various reasons.

Czech help us in the Operation Iraqi Freedom. They never cause us any problems. It's a crime that Slovenian can visit without a visa but Czechs can't.

I DONT THINK THIS IS A GOOD IDEA. USA NEEDS TO REQUIRE VISA FROM PEOPLE OF THESE COUNTRIES, OTHERWISE, EVERYBODY GOES AND STAYS, AND THE COUNTRY WILL BE A MESS OF ALIENS AND WILL CREATE MORE TROUBLES.
