Voluntary declaration of assets by Govt. officials

Target:
The Parliament, Govt. officers, social organizations and media.
Sponsored by:

In recent times, many questions have been raised over the integrity of our highest administrative officers. In such a scenario, where corruption plagues our Government chambers, a handful of honourable and hard working officers have undertaken a unique initiative to introduce real transparency in the Indian system. On 5th November, 2009, three IAS officers- Vijay Shanker Pandey, Sunil Kumar and Renuka Kumar;  and an IPS officer of the UP cadre Jasbir Singh voluntarily declared their assets before the Union cabinet secretary. Following this move, many more honest officers including six IAS and two IPS officers have already agreed to declare their assets in a few days as well.

The move has been highly appreciated- both by the sincere and efficient public servants and citizens alike. Such an action will surely help rejuvenate the lost respectability of the civil services and make it much easier to pin down corrupt officials. But the movement should not be limited to a handful of officers only; there is an urgent need for the same to be undertaken by all classes of Government officers from class I to class IV. Not only those directly working in the name of the government, but  the other elements of a good democracy including Social Organizations, NGOs, and important media houses too face a compelling moral obligation to present their records on public domain. The spread of corruption to social organizations in the name of community service and media houses creating such a profound impact on the democratic structure by spreading misinformation under profit motives has necessitated this initiative on their part as well. Off course, an individual or organization has every right to have more resources than the other- provided that there is a legal and reasonable explanation for it.

A compulsory display of record of assets must not be merely limited to a moral obligation- nobody tends to take them too seriously. In fact, it needs to be introduced as an amendment Indian Civil Services%u2019 (ICS) Service Rule (SR). For those bodies, who do not yet fall under the jurisdiction of the proposed laws, the public pressure and social responsibility needs to be a guiding force to add credibility to their actions by a formal declaration of assets.

The only people would need to fear and refrain from declaring their assets are the ones who have eaten away the Govt. machinery and ignorant citizens for years by sitting oh their posts. With this, the public will know for itself that who is the REAL officer and who is making a business out of public service. Moreover, it will be much easier to guess who might be involved in criminal activities at the highest levels.

We also need to ensure that efficient and just IPS officers like Mr. Jasvir Sngh are not made into mere sitting ducks at a useless posting with no work to do. We need our men of action to be given the opportunity to exercise their full potential and de-criminalize India, as Mr. Jasvir Singh has so selflessly tried to do- especially in the case of Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya. Still not having married, and making the best use of whatever resources he still has access to- both as a citizen and IPS, he has become a role model for the youth for the country.

The youth of the country hopes that such efforts will not go unnoticed, and the current initiatives of the best of our administrative officers will be wholeheartedly supported by the politicians, officers and public alike so that we can effectively weed out corruption from India.

Project Vijay, a prominent youth-centered social organization, has launched a mass campaign for the the implementation of the plans mentioned above. But for this, we need the support of each and every citizen of India that we can reach out to through this petition. Project Vijay, will then take this matter to the concerned authorities, and with your cooperation, work hard to achieve our goal of transparency and a coruption-free India.

The following video highlights the views of the young nation-

When accountability is rare in public life;disclosure of assests by Govt officials will definitely boost public morale and go a long way in steming the rot that has set in Indian society. An welcome effort;this needs active contribution from one and all.

DECLARING ASSETS IS SOMEWHAT DESTROYING THE CORRUPTION....................... WE SHOULD PRESSURISE OUR ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER AS WELL AS POLITICIAN TO DECLARE THEIR ASSETS PUBLICLY. THE PAY SCALE OF AN MP IS HARDLY AROUND 20000 ......THAT MEANS 2,40,000YEARLY...............BUT AS WE CAN SEE THEY HAVE ASSETS MORE THAN CRORE.............HOW IS IT POSSIBLE..............................
