Prevention can start by not eating meat . Mad cow illness started by ranchers feeding the cows feed which had pieces of cow meat in it . What did the ranchers expect ?

This makes me so angry! Cows don't "give" their products to us! We take them from them, we rob them of the milk that is meant to feed their babies, we rob them of their babies to turn those into meat or new milk machines and finally we rob them of everything they have: their lives. You want a cure for mad cow disease?! Fine, here's one: STOP breeding millions upon millions of cows, STOP exploiting these gentle, soulful herbivores in order to produce milk, meat or leather for human consumption! Our economic system is based on supply and demand, so if less animals are eaten, there will be less demand and fewer animals will be killed. And you claim to be concerned about the loss of food for poor countries in case of another outbreak of BSE? Well, let me give you another piece of my mind: "Production" of meat is ALWAYS a huge waste of food due to the enormous amounts of food crops that are used to feed the animals. It takes up to 16 pounds of grain to produce just 1 pound of meat, and up to 17 times more water to produce animal products than to produce plant-based products. A quarter of the Earth's terrestrial surface is used as grazing land and one third of arable land is used to grow food crops, imagine that! Given this background your petition is simply outrageous!! Don't you see that the evil is already inherent in the degradation of animals to be used as food-producing machines, that the immoral element is already inherent in their killing? When will all of you wanna-be animal lovers finally be consistent in your actions and GO VEGAN?
