This orphaned raccoon was one of 60 I raised and release in 2008. The State of Oklahoma earned about $20 in revenue on the supplies purchased for his care. Another 600 wild animals were also cared for here this year. Do the math!

Vote for Sales Tax Exemption for Okla. Animal Rescues!

Target:
Okla. Animal Rescues do not qualify for sales tax as do human charities!
THIS PETITION IS ABOUT TAX RELIEF FOR ALL ANIMAL RESCUES IN OKLAHOMA! NOT JUST WILDLIFE RESCUES!!!
As a new non profit wildlife rescue, I applied for my State Tax Exemption for Sales tax. The application listed potential categories. Churches, charities that assist people...nothing for animals. I decided it was a mistake, and wrote out "Animal rescue" on the application, under "other". It was declined. The letter read "Animal organizations do not qualify for sales tax exemption". I was SHOCKED! I spend tens of thousands of dollars in my community to care for rescued animals that the State offers absolutely no help for. I even have to pay them for my permits to help these animals, and now that I am an official charity, they STILL get 10% of my money and money from our donors! It's wrong, and it is time to change it.
I am going "all the way" with this request. I was advised by a former senator that this has most likely not been changed because no one has pushed for it. Well, I am pushing, and I need help. I've got the ball rolling, but I need the State to know that I am not the only one who feels this is outrageous and needs changing.

"We the undersigned Oklahoma voters and concerned citizens from other States, ask that legislation in Oklahoma be changed to allow 'not for profit' animal rescues and shelters to have a qualifying category for State sales tax exemption.  We ask that these Federally recognized 501(c)(3) organizations be regarded by the State as necessary members of the charity networks in our communities, and donation money and the money spent in the service of our community's unwanted and unowned animals not be taxed to support local and State Government programs and expenses, and be conserved in the same manner, with the same regard for necessity as human charities and churches."

I have 15 dogs that I have rescued and I understand the need for tax exemption. I Wish all pet supplies were exempt from tax.

My wife and I rescue animals and do what we can from our home. 70% of the animals we keep are rescue and this is time consuming and exspensive so I understand your needs. If we want to be the americans we say we are then it will take all of us to care for animals that are abused or abandoned. Wild life animals are just as important and need help to survive just like the rest of us.

We were given dominion (responsiblity) over the animals so as a Christian I believe it is part of our job description to take care of these animals. Our government should give tax relief to all agencies such as Wild Heart Ranch. Please reconsider and give tax relief to this agency. Respectfully, Deborah Royall-Boyer

I'm disappointed that Oklahoma declined Annette Tucker - Wild Ranch Wildlife Rescue's State Tax Exemption ! For someone who gives back to her community it is appauling that Oklahoma would turn it's back on her request because of her passion for all animals and have the nerve to take 10% of her money!! It is people like Annette that speak for those who have no voice and I commend her for that! It is because of us humans that so many of our wildlife friends are becoming extinct...we need to stop destroying what the good Lord has given us.

Personally I feel that churches receive entirely too much money and some of it should go to Gods creatures. Also, the people at Wild Heart Ranch spend a lot of their own money and time to treat these animals where no one else will do so. People can mostly take care of themselves but domestic animals cannot. Besides it is some irresponsible humans that help put these animals in the shelters anyway. Lets change this ridiculous old tax law so the tax money can go to help the animals and not the ( I am going to quit before I stick my foot in my mouth any further)
