It's importand because some of us may not suffer diabetes, but we have to show that we care, and respect they have the disease, and that we accept them for them. My grandmother suffered from it, and she died, she lost two of her legs from it also, and i pray for the doctors to find a cure for all of this.

I've dealt with diabetes almost my entire life. I was diagnosed at 27 months and I don't have even the smallest memory of life before all the needles and finger pokes. WDD shows me there are people who care and want to express the need for a cure- something not everyone in my life understands.

Raising awareness is extremely important to me. I'm Type 1 Diabetic, I run into people everywhere who don't know the difference between the several types and are absolutely convinced that I can be "cured" by just diet and exercise and that I must be a really "bad diabetic" because I use an insulin pump. Or that Type 2 is completely a persons "fault" for having it. Awareness/Knowledge needs to be spread!

Why is World Diabetes Day important?

World Diabetes Day is important to raise awareness of this disease that is affecting my Mom, my Father-in-Law, and many more loved ones throughout the world. There is a growing number of people being diagnosed with diabetes, and there is a lack of information that is known and provided. More educational resources need to be provided to raise awareness of the disease and to help people living with diabetes. The time to find a cure for diabetes is NOW!

Too many people don't get the education and health care they need to take care of themsemselves after being diagnosed. That needs to change quickly by getting those that are affected by the disease and their loved ones connected with the resources they need to live a longer and healthier lifestyle.

My husband is a Type - 1 Diabetic. Without his insulins, he would die. If you are pre-diabetic, take measures to avoid diabetes.
