Yes we want free and fair elections in Zimbabwe as soon as possible. The longer we delay having those elections the longer it will take for the country to develop and become competitive in the global village and the more Zimbabweans will suffer under below starndard institutions. We don't want to waste more of our time with this GNU which is not working.

I am not a Zimbabwean, am a South African but my wife is a Zimbabwean and so I am concerned with what happens in Zimbabwe since it affects my wife. From a distance I have noticed how this GNU has failed to dilute Mugabe's communist powers and communist ideas. I laugh everytime he talks about a regime change agenda as if it is a crime to want to change his regime. That Mugabe lost the plot a long time ago and has failed to upgrade his politics to fit the changing times. He belongs to a political museum and should stay there and leave those whose politics fit the changing times to rule Zimbabwe. This is why I support this petition.

The sooner we move torwards proper democratic institutions in Zimbabwe the better for the development of the country since democratic institutions instill a lot of confidence into both local, regional and foreign investors.

Mugabe is like a footballer who is dribbling the ball all over the football ground during a match instead of passing it over to other team players and usually the result is loosing the match. In the GNU he is dribbling his presidential powers all over the government instead of sharing the power with other GNU leaders and the result is no progress in the country. Tsvangirai and Mutambara have failed to curb him and sell their democratic vision to him so the only solution for Zimbabwe is free and fair elections as early as possible.

Tsvangirai what makes you think this time round Mugabe will submit to your demands when he refused to do so before although you had all signed the GPA agreement. You should have continued to refuse to be part of the GNU again until he has submitted to your demands and you should also have made him promise to allow the new constitution-making process to bear fruits as soon as possible and set a date for the next elections. You seem directionless and a little confused and would make a weak president who can easily be swayed either way by stronger characters. Just finish off your GNU circus term in power so that we vote for the president with the right leadership qualities that we want in Zimbabwe. Take it from me Tsvangirai if you continue to show such weak leadership qualities it won't be you Tsvangirai and it obviously wont be the dictator Mugabe or anyone who succeeds him.

A gnu should be shorter than the (letters in the) word itself in terms of years. If a war ravaged Liberia could have a two year transition govt surely we can do much better than that! The gnu should be a midwife who hands over the baby to the rightful mother not hold on to the baby. On paper the terms of reference are clear ie to make new strong institutions that would administer electoral issues in Zimbabwe in a manner favoring noone but Zimbabweans. Unless somebody is not Zimbabwean enough to fear such a scenario then one wonders why it only remains in our dreams. Kusvikira riiniko isu vanyai tichishupika to borrow from the late Vengesai Muzenda's borrowed verse.

The GNU has failed to work so the only option we have is free and fair unriggable elections that are heavily monitored by professional and ethical international monitors who are uncorruptable. We don't want election monitors from most African countries who are afraid to rebuke Mugabe and would never dare say anything against Mugabe which means if his party rigs the elections or does not conduct free and fair election practices they will never say it out.

We want a normal political arrangement in Zimbabwe, whereby the one who wins free and fair democratic elections which are rigging-free is the one who rules the nation. Not this GNU arrangement in which the man who lost the presidential race and then rigged the results so that there is a re-run has more powers than the man who actually won the elections. That is a crazy arrangement no wonder the GNU has failed to work. Mbeki is the one who came up with such a crazy idea and yet in his own country he would never allow that. We want to do away with this joke called the GNU by voting as soon as possible.

The GNU has failed to work and we now want a democratic permanent solution in Zimbabwe which is based on free and fair elections as early as March 2010. Let's not wait for political leaders to make a difference in our lives because we just might wait in vain. So let us instigate the difference that we want in our lives by signing this petition.
