Keep Michael Vick Out of the NFL!

Target:
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell
Michael Vick has been sentenced to 23 months in prison for financing a dogfighting ring and helping to kill pit bulls. Vick initially denied any wrong doing but eventually admitted he was deeply involved in a dogfighting enterprise and endorsed the killing of dogs who did not fight well by drowning or hanging.

Vick's sentence came too late for all the dogs that were killed and victimized as part of his dogfighting activities.

Please urge the NFL to ban Michael Vick permanently. Professional players are role models for children and millions of people and someone with a record of animal cruelty shouldn't be allowed to set a bad example. Dogfighting is unacceptable and the NFL must act accordingly.

Sign this petition to ask the NFL to take a stand against dogfighting once and for all!

We are still outraged by Michael Vick's behavior.

He brutalized dogs and lied about his involvement in a dogfighting ring. Vick's sentence came too late for all the dogs that were killed and victimized as part of his dogfighting activities.

We welcome your decision from last July to ban Vick from training camp while the league investigated the charges against him, but now it's time to ban Michael Vick from the NFL permanently.

Professional players are role models for children and millions of people and someone with a record of animal cruelty shouldn't be allowed to set a bad example.

Animal cruelty is criminal, unacceptable and shouldn't go unpunished.

We need to put an end to dogfighting in our country once and for all. Make sure the NFL acts accordingly.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter.

My own rescued pit bull can be seen here http://www.dogster.com/dogs/354737 Daisy was also used as a bait dog and now is a Certified Therapy Dog, just like Leo, one of Michael Vick's dogs. Ban this ferocious man from professional sports. His cruelty knows no bounds.

It takes a person with sick and disgusting morals to do what he did. Letting him back in the NFL announces social tolerance for what he did and who is as a person. Keep Vic out for good!

Michael Vick is a sick person. He should never be allowed to act as a role model for anyone. He is a disgrace.

If Vick is let back into the NFL I will never again purchase anything having to do with professional football. I will also use my influence as director of a international technical training company to influence others to stop supporting professional football.

Keep him out of the NFL - too many kids look to professional athletes as role models and he is definitely not a role model I would want for my children.

This is a horrifing thing Vick has done with these innocent creatures. He may have said he was sorry, but everyone knows he is only sorry that he was caught. He did not recieve enough punishment for this horrendous crime, but by not allowing him to return to the NFL would send a powerful message so that other players would not dare to take the chance of loosing their life due to this crime. We should send this as a message that dog fighting will not be tolerated!

What a sad commentary on our times if Michael Vick is allowed to play in the NFL. Some say-he has served his time, but, what about the dogs?-what about his victims? I am convinced he knew exactly what he was doing all the while he was doing it and his only regret is that he got caught!!!! So, now a changed man?? I don't think so-anyone who is capable of that kind of brutality does not belong anywhere in the public forum. I think the NFL better take a good look at the standards they want to project, and if they choose to maintain a positive image-it can't be done with Michael Vick as a part of the NFL.
# 914:

What type of message are we portraying to our children, if we put this monster back in the NFL? Why is toturing animals diffrent from doing so to people? It's not. We look to our professional athletes to make a positive impact to our children and their futures. Michael Vick's place in this world should be working with animals in kennels for the rest of his life. That would be a life sentence appropriately served.

If he plays it shows that the NFL, a great American institution, does not care enough about animal wellfare to punish him.... he deserves far worse. Do not allow him to play. I can change channels... and Hockey is not to boring to watch.

Please, please do not let Michael Vick play football again in his whole life, unless every penny he earns goes to Best Friends, or a animal welfare society similar to Best Friends. This man is a cruel unethical human being. Don't let his discussions of remorse fool you. Don't let him play again. I believe there are many many people across the United States who feel the same way. Furthermore, how would any of his future team mates see him as a human being? He has lost the respect of many who thought he was a good person by his actions and jail sentence. Do the right thing. Do not bring him back into the NFL. I am positive there is a special place in Hell for Mr. Vick or anyone who abuses animals. May his life on earth be a touch of what will happen in Hell.
# 899:

"There is a place in hell reserved for people like you". Allow him back in and you will lose a fan for life. He should be electrocuted just as he did to God's creatures. A vile piece of worthless scum.

Football is a professional sport that kids watch and try to be like the players.I believe that Vick lost his right to play by going against all the rules that the NFL has..If he is allowed to return to football I will never buy anything or watch anything that has anything to do with NFL.
# 897:
7:33 pm PST, Nov 25, Faith Horner, Pennsylvania
Vick should not be allowed back in the NFL, he has pleaded quilty to being a person that enjoyed gambling, abuse, torturer, mutilation and killing dogs. What kind of example does that set for fans and young people? I have been hearing that NFL is working to clean up the league on and off the field. To consider letting him play is a huge step backward. I also feel that Joey Porter should be told to tone down a LOT, his statment "All it was was dogs," more or less puts him is the same class as Vick.

He should be put in a circle and let wild animals tear him to bits and pieces so he can see what he put ALL those dogs through. He should never be allowed to play football or be associated with it at all ever! If they allowed him back into the NFL it would only be saying it's ok to do what he did.

I am sure this man was a "hero" as a football player to many kids. He should & is being held accountable for his actions. We need to have positive role models in the media & in personal life for our children, esp during these difficult times. This behavior toward animals can also turn to violence with humans as well
# 888:
8:07 pm PST, Nov 22, Name not displayed, Canada
The NFL should use this as an opportunity to take a positive approach and show it's fans that their good opinion is more important than one team's revenues. This man has already been overcompensated for his athletic ability by a very minimal sentence for aggregious acts of illegal cruelty. The league should send a clear message to it's millions of viewers and sponsers that it does not reward this behavior.

"The dogs were killed by shooting, hanging, electrocution and drowning, and in at least one instance, according to one of the witnesses, when Vick and Phillips killed a red pit bull by "slamming it to the ground several times before it died, breaking the dog's back or neck.""
# 884:

If the NFL has any morals - they will ban this "disgrace" from ever seeing the green of a football field again. The laws in this country DO NOT protect animals and only give a "slap on the wrist" to the offender. Set a good example for our children. Show them that this is not acceptable.

Please do not allow Vick to be any part of the NFL. What he did should keep him out of the NFL. If he returns to any role in the NFL in any role I will boycott the NFL. My support of the NFL - from attendance to buying NFL clothing and more will end and I will petition for others to do the same.

# 876:

Please deny Michael Vick the opportunity to play football for the NFL. If he is permitted to resume a career with the NFL, this will send a very negative message to the American public. If this were to happen, I would hope animal lovers would band together to boycott attendance at football games and the purchase of football memorabilia. Please help set an example to children who look up to football players. Don't allow children to believe Michael Vick's cruel treatment of dogs is so minor that he can return to professional football.

This monster does not deserve to be in the puplic eye any longer except where to serve as a constant reminder of all you WILL lose if you choose greed and evil as your way of life. He does not have anything to offer the NFL except shame and the loss of thousands of the good and decent people who make up your fan base. Do the right thing. Stand up for the animals and for decency. DO NOT ALLOW this foul, hateful, dispicable "thing" (because he is not human!) back into the league.

Not only should he be banned from the NFL, his punishment should be far greater than a mere 23 months in prison. The reprimand of the cruelty and torture that he brought upon all of those innocent dogs is pathetic. Michael Vick has shown no remorse for what he has done and deserves absolutely nothing from this world.
# 870:

Please do not give this sub-human any job at all working for the NFL, not even a volunteer one! 23 months is not enough and he should never be able to earn another dime as a "star", whether with the NFL or any other sports group in the United States. He has not shown one drop of remorse, except for being caught and is not worthy of being a role model for a piece of lint.
# 869:

Football players are supposed to be role models. What happen to people playing sports because they love the game? Now all sports players care about is the next paycheck. It was bad enough with drugs, bar fights, and fights between players, but then turning to abusing dogs?! The younger generation looks up to these sports players on what is right and wrong. In a time where the lack of parental guidance is on a rampage sometimes these sports players are all the guidance these kids are getting today. To not hold the players responsible and to pretend that what Mr. Vick did was no big deal is just mind boggling and beyond wrong! These times are getting soft where they should be strict and obsessed where they should be focused on more important issues. I cannot stress how important it is to start putting the foot down and start putting sports back to clean players that play for the game and to entertain the fans. What is wrong with the world today?!

It is time for sports in this country to start to assume some responsibility. The vicious acts perpetrated by Michael Vick cast a shadow on the NFL. Do the right thing and keep Michael Vick from ever participating in sports again, particularly as part of the NFL. That will demonstrate responsible behavior on the part of our US sports organizations and be an example to others. Thank you.

Dear Commissioner: I am signing this petition to bar Mr Vick from playing pro footbal ever again. Person's who are famous in the sports world set an example for our youth. When they are allowed to "make a mistake" and get slapped on the wrist to play again, I fail to see the word Icon, Hero, or emulation for our youth to beleive in. What Mr Vick did id deplorable and not worth his reinvolvement in a sport that many youmg men and women look at as a way to channel their hopes and dreams. He lied to begin with and when there was enough evidence built against him, stated that he had lied and was sorry. Please do not allow men like and including Mr Vick to continue making large salaries to promote this kind of senseless action. I wonder what the dogs who were injured and killed were thinking?

All in the name of sports! This is ridiculous if football wasn't a gambling sport where huge amounts of money wasn't being made this wouldn't be happening. Vick should not be able to go back to making the money he made before or play sports any longer. But because he is a man and men still are in charge of our world and they have really messed our world up haven't they? The moron will probably go back and do it again. KEEP VICK OUT OF FOOTBALL FOR GOOD!!!!!

He does NOT deserve a second chance he did NOT give that to the dogs he has brutally beaten, fought, killed, and if he does many people will trun on the NFL! Animal cruelty is a crime, and any person that will harm or kill an animal will do so to a child or adult. Domestic violence and animal cruelty seem to run hand in hand. Please in the name of Jesus do NOT allow Vick back into NFL, that is not a role model I want for my children. I say NO to NFL taking Vick back!
