We Won't Be Distracted. Not This Time!

Target:
Fox News, CNN
Sponsored by:
If Barack Obama can stay above political mudslinging when he's under attack, we, the voters can promise not to be distracted from the issues that really matter as well.

Tell the media that you're focused on the real difficulties facing our nation. Because you're sick of hypocritical political mudslinging that serves to divide our country and divert us from discussing the significant and very real problems that affect us every day.

Sign this petition because you're inspired by Obama's More Perfect Union speech -- it reminds us of what matters most to this country and the changes we desperately need. Health care, jobs heading overseas, global warming, a crashing economy, collapsing schools, and a never-ending war. These are things that matter to all of us whether we vote for Obama, Clinton, or McCain.

Last time we were distracted from the issues that matter to us we got George W. Bush and a trillion dollar war. Sign to tell the media and the world, "We won't be distracted. Not this time!"

What I want to hear about: following the model of other nations in providing universal health care, education and job training, support during maternity and paternity leave, and hear about innovations to avoid jobs heading overseas, treaties protecting worker safety, worker rights and the environment in all our trade, policies against global warming, repairing a crashing economy, regulating banks and corporations to prevent fraud, helping collapsing schools, and either stopping the war or levying the taxes to pay for a never-ending war.

There are enough major issues to be concerned about without being distracted by meaningless stories about non-issues.

Please stay focused on issues of health care, jobs, global change, the economy, education and the invasion of Iraq, costing lives, suffering and debt to China.

The voters are growing up. We've seen your sleazy tactics and smear campaigns too many times not to recognize them for what they are. Keep it up and very soon we will be taking action against you to ensure we get a 'free press' again. That is an action that is long overdue. The jig is up, guys, each story you slant or suppress just adds more converts to the anti media conglomerate movement. Stop trying to control us and get back to your job of reporting the facts from ALL points of view!

It may be too much to ask, but I would love it if the media quit playing the stupid clips and sound bites that have very little to do with anything important. Could we, as a country, focus on issues that matter this time?

I wish that we could get some true reporting. The kind based on fact not opinion. I am tired of media glamourizing insults. Let's instead focus on what's good, what's important, what's true. That is the news channel I will watch.

We, as a political citizenry, will not be distracted by partisan weighting of news coverage or manufactured controversy. We expect and demand from news providers the rigor and professionalism there professions demand. Research the issues and report your findings. This is the future of our nation, not 'reality television.'
