Go-Topless Day Protest Aug 23, 2008, NYC

Women's constitutional right to go topless in public

Target:
Government
Sponsored by:
Gotopless.org claims the constitutional right of women to go topless in public in the name of gender equality.
Rael, spiritual leader and founder of goTopless.org states: "as long as men can be topless, constitutionally women should have the same right, or men should also be forced to wear something hiding their chest."

Gotopless organizes a National Go-Topless Day protest every year at the end of August in honor of Women's Equality Day (celebrated on Aug 26).  It it is indeed on that date in 1920 that women won the right to vote.

It is quite plainly ridiculous that in this century and age with more pressing severe social problems around our planet that states and governments should interfere with the rights of human beings as to what to wear or not wear, or how and when it is acceptable by laws to display our natural human bodies. Women and men must oppose any from of state interference in dress or display and women must have the right to wear or not wear clothing at their own sole discretion without penalty or interference from the state or organisations. Bodies, especially breasts, are not obscene, they are natural.

The only difference between a male and female breast ist the size. Even that isn't always true as a man can have larger breast than many women but can still go around with his shirt off. It's time to put these Victorian Ideals away.

I do believe that the sexual innuendo of woman's breasts will gradually diminish once our society becomes accustomed to seeing the true nature of the female figure. Given the circumstances that gay men are getting breast implants or taking estrogen pills to develop breasts, it is absurd for women to be discriminated against having the option to go topless. To get different opinions, I started two separate polls for both men and women on blacksbeach.com. Let the public decide what they feel is appropriate, not historical documentation.

I TOTALLY SUPPORT WOMEN AND THEIR RIGHTS!! IF A WOMAN CHOSES TO EXPOSE HER BREASTS, THEY SHOULD HAVE THE RIGHT TO BE FREE AND FEEL COMFORTABLE. AT ONE TIME,ALL WOMEN WERE BARED AND IT WAS NORMAL. IN TODAYS WORLD, WOMEN ARE LOOKED DOWN UPON FOR WEARING A LOWCUT SHIRT. I LOOK DOWN UPON MEN WHO WEAR THEIR PANTS AROUND THEIR KNEES WITH THEIR BOXERS SHOWING. LETS FREE THE BREASTS AND FREE AMERICA'S WOMEN!!

It is about time the USA grew up when it comes to nudity. The only reason it is kept under a blanket is, why give it away when you can sell it. As long as it is a taboo then people will be willing to pay for it. It's not about morality, just the money. Imagine if seeing a womens bare breasts in public had no more impact then seeing a man's. In the wrong place at the wrong time, both could be offensive. There was a time when men were expected to wear a full coverage bathing suit. We haven't progressed much have we.

The only thing that censorship does is worsen a society's ethical and moral fabric. The main reason men are obsessed with breasts is they have been covered up for so long in Western society. The tendency for our society to shun breast feeding only amplifies the problem, not to mention the health issues created when a human is not given it's mother's milk!

In many European countries it is completely legal, and it is also legal in Canada, for the women to go topless

Im a guy and I don't think i know what its like to have to go to a pool or a beach and have to have a shirt or a top on. I think its unfair that woman have to wear a top to go to a beach or pool. ITS NATURE PEOPLE WAKE UP!!! Adam and Eve were naked right? Not until they took the fruit from that sacred tree. It brought shame to the world and crime and murder. Because of this people now realize that people are naked so thats why the invention of the clothes was created. Think about it. Millions of dollars are wasted in cash because of shame, because of Adam and Eve. I don't go completely naked to pools because then i would get arrested. So would a woman if she was topless. Being topless or naked shouldn't be shameful OR a law. I think woman have as equal rights as us guys. Heck, humans should be naked ANYWAYS!

Interesting, I had never known there was a mass desire to go topless in public. While when I was younger I would have slobbered all over this idea, however now I can see several things that could prevent the spread of this new found right. They are groping, gaping, and... harassment. It could be very unsafe for women. My main, and more important point however is that I do not want to see lots of fat people topless, even if it meant that I may occasionally see the girl of my dreams with her boobs popping out. It is not a fair trade-off in my mind, as selfish as that may be. Also, I can't imagine standing in line at a bank with a woman right behind me with her shirt off, no matter how attractive. How do you hit on a hot girl that isn't wearing a shirt!? It is just another difficulty in my life that would make attractive women even more unapproachable. The best part of hitting on a girl is imagining her naked, this kind of takes away from that... it's like that episode of Seinfeld. In the view of society, women control the realm of sex, and I can see this being abused. Men could be arrested for "staring in a disturbing manner" and the public would side with the woman every time. That is just unfair to men. The laws entire stance on sex would have to be shifted to avoid unfair punishment. If I see an attractive topless woman in the street, I guarantee you I will be checking her out... very intently... which leads me to my next point: Accidents due to distraction will go up. I can reference you to an episode of sienfeld: Jerry was driving his car when he saw an attractive woman wearing only a bra. He was distracted and promptly wrecked his car. If it can happen in seinfeld, it can happen in life. If you have read this far I applaud you, as you can tell my opinion is very close-minded and over dramatized. It is in my opinion that gender roles can be a good thing, as long as those roles are not derogatory in context, but that is a whole other argument in itself that I am not willing to go into here. I do not believe this should be legalized, but My stance is not far enough in that direction to care to a large degree. I understand there would be restrictions on it as they are already implemented on males (no shoes no shirt no ____) I can understand the request, but it is my belief that men and women should embrace their differences. And I just don't want to see any topless fatties.

I'm proud to live in the only state that recognizes that keeping women from baring their breasts in public whilst allowing men to do so is little more than discrimination. I can only hope the rest of the country will follow New York's example.
