PETITION TO THE EUROPEAN UNION AND THE UN SOCIAL-PACT-NATIONS

We call on the 160 UN Social Pact nations to set measures at last that prevent the starvation of 6 million children per year!

According to the UN Social Pact that has been signed by 160 nations as soon as the year 1966, every human has the right to be protected from hunger and to adequate nutrition as per Articles 11.1 and 11.2.

Despite that, in this world more than 6 million children are starving per year and a total of one billion people do not have access to sufficient food and water to survive! (This is equivalent to one out of seven people on earth)This means that approximately 16,000 children die from starvation every day!

We demand that the governments of the UN Social Pact nations seriously tackle this problem and at last decide on obligatory measures that will save the lives of the people who are threatened by starvation in this world. The actualization of the human right to food can only be achieved by the obligatory collaboration of those nations.

Besides, we request that

- the governments acknowledge the right to food as an international human right that is universally valid

- governments respect, protect and ensure the right to food of humans within their national borders and beyond

- more people know their right to food and are able to claim it politically

- victims of violations of the right to food can enforce their right within their own country and internationally.
