Wrongfull Conviction

I am writing to request your intervention into a situation of great injustice taking place in Prince George Va. The District Attorney Of Prince George  has refused to follow the guidelines by the Statue laws of Virginia based on the criteria used to convict my son of a robbery He did not commit. The District Attorney's Punishment has turned the police, judge, jurors and courts into instruments of intimidation and oppression. District Attorney Jay C. Paul should be investigated for his conduct as an District Attorney and actions are a blatant and unacceptable abuse of power, and his continue poor decision making does affect all African Americans in the Prince George community.  You should act immediately to make clear your commitment to justice in this case, and announce that you will grant immediate reprieves I would like to think that what is happening in Prince George is not consistent with your values, or with what the State of Virginia sees as justice. My lawyers have asked District Attorney Jay Paul to drop all charges against Derrick Savage. Derrick Savage has never been in trouble with the law and was on a Basketball Scholarship to play Montgomery MD, 2008, ranked 413 on ESPN for Basketball. With in the community his case is called the railroad case. Derrick Pleaded Not Guilty, To a charge of Robbery In the Second Degree .

While waiting for a court date and Derrick out on bond District Attorney called Derrick%u2019s attorney and stated Derrick needs to come in his office and plead guilty if not District Attorney will take Derrick off bond and place him in jail. District Attorney is totally unprofessional and out of control. We knew Derrick was innocent .I was

Also warned the district Attorney will go out and use the jury members that were more favorable to him .There were 11 Caucasian middle age jurors and one African American ranging from 50-60 years old . They were selected to trial the case. I lived in Prince George for 10 years and a retired military soldier, and I know there are thousands of African Americans soldiers and family members based at Fort Lee that resides in Prince George VA area.  District Attorney twisted the story around and used the reason why a Robbery took place Derrick was out of gas. Robbery did take place and it was an elderly school teacher. Derrick was bringing a Co defendant home. There were a total of two Co defendant%u2019s in the car. The third co defendant was already at the location. And has a relative that lived in the area. Co Defendant that represented the state called and asked for a ride home which is about another exit from where Derrick dropped off the co defendant that was in the car. When Derrick Arrived The third Co defendant that represented the state tried to enter the car at that time Derrick specifically told he need gas money to take him home. In court he stated he will do with he will have to do. At that time he left Derrick continue to talk on the phone. Co Defendant stated when he came back the car was moved, in which derrick  

Was talking to one of the friends about what college basketball team ,that was recruiting him.  Co defendant that represented the state.  Stated in court

 Before entering the car Co defendant gave another co defendant $20.00

 Gave Derrick $4.00to take him home for gas money. In court Co defendant stated

When Derrick arrived at the gas station .The Co Defendant took the four dollars back from Derrick went inside the gas station gave the attendant the four dollars, and pumped the gas himself. The police officer that testified stated that Derrick statement states he did not participate plan or conspire in a robbery.  The jury was hung .And the trail judge made them revote. The Jury found Derrick guilty of Robbery in the Second Degree. 3 years 5 months. There was no evidence in this case what so ever. My lawyer told  him This was a personal case and this kid is innocent The DA reply  was he don%u2019t like the kid and will do what ever he can to destroy him. he don%u2019t care about evidence to convict him. My lawyer also stated there was a

Jury member that stated he tried to convict him of a gun charge but the black person that was on the jury would not let Me do it, but I did make sure Derrick was convicted of the robbery. This was very harsh for a person who did not commit this crime and as a parent to watch this lopsided court case was the worse thing I. have ever witness in my life. I get calls about this people want me to go on television and talk about this. I have been through hell and back. Mr. Paul knows my son did not commit this crime. District Attorney should be subject to in investigation and should not represent the community of Prince George Va. I commend my son for standing up for him self he has maintain his innocence throughout this case. Its just a shame how Unequal Justice against African American in Prince George is so heavenly used to convict younger black males for nothing. And placing harsh crimes is totally abusive and unjustifiable .This case needs to be investigated at a higher level . God Bless America
