X-Play Format Change Reversal

Target:
X-Play
Sponsored by:

Over the years many a gamer has been changed by the sights seen upon G4's X-Play. Yet six months ago a bunch of men in suits decided to change the format from the funny enjoyable show that united fans all over the world to a bland clone of many of the gaming mediums we've seen before.

What have we gained by this change?  Well, it would seem that game developers are more likely to stop in studio.  They'll show their games a little more willingly, because it appears to be a professional program.

What have we lost? X-Play's credability.  In order to keep developers coming on, they can't risk upsetting the big giants with unfavorable reviews.  We can no longer sit through an episode and recieve knowledge AND enjoyment.  We are left with a few unsatisfying replacement such as Gamertag to fill the void, and all it does is remind us of how far they've fallen.

This represents a dangerous time in the gaming community.  A time when we will be forced to choose to become a mindless drone of a witless overseer, or stand up with a single voice a problaim that we want programming that entertains as it teaches. A program that can unite the world against really really awful games that are ported from a movie screen!

But most importantly, we can send a message to Adam and Morgan that we care for their future.  As fans we can help propel them to stardome, or watch them wither in the cages, confined to the torment of boring television.

Xplay use to be the best damn game show in the world no one came close they were funny and although I didn't always agree with their rating I trusted most of what they said. But now they sold out. They look like any other game stupid show they barely even have reveiws anymore the whole show is like one damn comercial for the big companies. Adam Morgan come back, or I can garuntee, like so many other shows on your channel Xplay will be no more

I used to be so excited when x-play came on... Since the change, I find myself listening to the daily news on games and fast forwarding until I can find a game I'm interested in. Unfortunately, that doesn't happen often so I end up forwarding the whole episode. Everyone seems so distant now. The set is very cold and doesn't have that comfortable feeling. Even the intro managed to become horrible. I miss the zombie attacks and taking a stroll with a fish named Slippy. What the hell happened to you, x-play? You used to have so much personality.

The show is called X-PLAY! So PLAY!

I miss the old X-Play. I DVR it now, but I usually see what they have to say in the beginning and fast forward to the end. I really get bummed when they show the retro shows and it really sinks in how boring the new shows are. Adam's skit about changing camera angles in games is hilarious...his frustration trying to take a piss really gets the point across. The whole channel stinks now. I'm soooo sick of Cops, Ninja Warrior, Cheaters, etc. Bring back the gaming, tech, and computer shows.

I can't stand what happened. The show was formally known as xplay or even EXTENDED PLAY was hilarious, and it had reviews/previews.....where is that now?!

Damn you X-Play. I use to regularly watch your show for the funny skits, the funny reviews, and etc... Now it's really dull. Hell, we're lucky if you review more than one game an episode. Now, some may like the Hands on BS, but if we wnated that we would have sought other game reviews magazines and sites. Now I don't even watch X-play cause I usually end up falling asleep after the first 3 minutes. While everyone else too reviewing seriously you stepped back and said "We don't like that. Reviews should be entertaining." but now you have become another lame bunch of reviewers in the crowd of non-originality. If you wanted to add more content to your show then you should have extended the show another 30 minutes. You could have kept the old routine while introducing new segments. It's not like G4's time slots have many good shows. I think we've all seen enough of COPS, Ninja Warrior, and etc... Those shows are good, but damn! You'd think your network was dedicated to airing 10 different 30 minute shows. Super Big Product Fun Show is amazing and yet I hardly ever see it while I'm sick of seeing Ninja Warrior and COPS. G4 needs to stop trying to conform and go back to it's old ways and be a network I can actually enjoy watching. Please dear god don't let AoTS go the way of X-Play.

You're all a bunch of no-life douches, especially whoever Rogue09 is. So a TV show changed it's format. They're allowed to do that. Unless you yourself can do better, then you're just wasting everyone's time. Also, X-play was never funny. At best it was amusing. The new format is bassically them growing up and maturing to further promote the medium they love, and it's time you douches learned to grow up too. It was worth signing this thing just to spew this at all 44 of you. Rogue09 is a douche.

I like x-play a lot, but i miss the older, funnier x-play and i would much rather watch x-play the way it used to be. By the way, what happened to the old voice over guy?

I hate the new Xplay. While I loved the original, this new format change is terrible. The show isn't funny now, nor is it informative. I have no desire to sit through an uncomfortable interview w/ game designers where Adam/Morgan are forced to brownnose. "This new Ironman game looks really cool!" Yeah right... So they don't review games any more? That was why I tuned in. And not for the good reviews. I want them to HATE the game, tear it apart. That's why I watch(ed) Xplay, for the wit and cynicism. The new reviews don't have it, and are barely even there to begin with. A whole show of game trailers? Why would I care about that? So I don't watch the show now. I thought I could weather the storm and stick things out, but I just can't get excited about watching a 22 minute commercial, especially when I only own one console. Hell, 2/3 of the reviews don't even apply to me. My viewings have dropped from loyal every day to only occasionally. I certainly don't tape it if I'm out. And if there's no reviews I change the channel. I don't want news. I get that online. I don't care for previews, "first looks" or whatever they want to call a game trailer. Game trailers suck. Every crap game looks awesome in its trailer. This new Xplay offers me nothing. And I am not alone.

I remember watching X-Play for the first time. I laughed until my face was blue. I was a devoted fan watching it everyday, then out of no where, I see my fun, beloved, truth-telling X-Play, turned into something as bad as Reviews on the Run.(they seriously say everything is good and next to no comedy). When my satalite was going down, I was stricken because I couldn't watch X-Play anymore, now I couldn't care less after watching the reviews they display on the website. Please, revert back to regular X-Play. It was actually watchable.

I used to love X-Play. But now…it changed. It has really gone downhill. The news and trailers they offer could probably be found almost anywhere else, and their reviews are only once per episode, now. Even with the original reviews, what made it X-Play was the comedy, with shows full of reviews. If your looking for business, X-Play, take the new sections off the air and put them on the website. What brought viewers in were was the comedy in the review show, not a monotone review that could be found anywhere else on the internet.

my first experience with G4 and the whole video gaming world came when i accidentally ran across an episode of xplay after having moved into a new house with cable. before then, i was totally unaware that there was even a culture around gaming. i thought it was just me enjoying my n64 and playstation games, my friends occasionally coming over to play too. xplay opened my eyes to a greater world, and at the same time made me laugh. a LOT. which is something i really needed, considering my parents divorce and such, but this isnt oprah and i wont get into that. my point is, xplay's oddball sense of humor caught my attention and kept me entertained, as well as helping me learn that i wasnt the only one who was into videogames (i grew up in a small neighborhood, and i hadnt run across any other kids or even adults that were into video games and other cool media, and xplay was kind of a friend to me in those days.)it not only did these things, but i think the experience of being exposed to this wonderful program changed my life. i am asking sincerely, please change xplay to the way it used to be! i get up every weekday morning early just to see old episodes of morgan beating the crap out of adam, adam yelling crazily, complaining about aquaman, and the both of them praising great games, as well as producing absolutely hilarious comments about the crappier ones (aquaman, etc.). (one quote comes to mind; "what happened to aquaman...a terrible accident ata skynyrd concert!?', followed by a segment involving adam, san francisco, and a fish) overall, the g4 network itself also seems to have sold out...the entire lineup has lost the life and citality it had just a few short years ago...in fact, i barely even watch xplay, i just look at a review or two in my spare time. cmon you guys are comedic GENIUSES and its easy to also be professional, you did it all the time back then, i dont see why you cant now, and really dont understand the change in general except to make more money. im in my teenage years and dreamed of coming to work for your network after college, and i will admit i actually wanted to do adam sessler's job (lol)...but im starting to reconsider now...if its getting this stale now, i imagine in a few years by the time i get ther it will be a bunch of suits simply stating facts stiffly to the masses like a CNN-knockoff. seriously, guys, this is the path you're headed down...don't let this happen! i would say more, but this post is already ridiculously long respectfully, JD Holland Conway, Arkansas

Why is X-Play trying to be several shows in one and failing at that? I miss the funny stuff, Steve and Bob, Grabnar the Wanderer, Ratty the puppet. Return things to how they should be.

I remember all the good times when x play would make me laugh with werid stuff like bob and steve or that crazy animal ratty who kept saying, "Suck it bitch." LOL GOOD TIMES! Also how reviews of games were at least 4 mins long. Now there is no humor and reviews are less than 2 mins long! WTF!?!?! Anyways I hope that one day it will all brought back to its humor days. ~Counting the days till ratty comes back Danny Celiz

Since the change, it's becoming a drone of a show used only to spit out info at us in a mind-numbingly paced format. It's too stuffed with crap like Cheat and the Gaming Update, and the original show's purpose, the reviews, has since lost its luster and humor. The hosts have also seem to be forced to cut each other's chemistry and humor aside, pretending to be some kind of gaming journalism. All it seems is like 2 people trying too hard to be professional. Granted, it is a pure gaming show. However, IGN.com does the same thing in less than 30 minutes. With no commercial breaks.
