Summer in Wisconsin not only means farmers' markets, baseball games, family picnics, gardening, and sunshine.Unfortunately, summer in Wisconsin also means that the mean and unenlightened are bored, so local pig wrestling
contests abound. Pig wrestling is cruel, embarrassing for most Wisconsinites, and against the law.Attorneys with expertise in Wisconsin's animal law are stating that these events are in clear violation of the Wisconsin Statues.
Chapter 951 of Wisconsin law:951.08 "(1) No person may intentionally instigate, promote, aid or abet as a principal agent or employee, or participate
in the earnings from, or intentionally maintain or allow any place to be used for a cockfight, dog fight, bullfight or other fight between the same or different kinds of animals or between an animal and a person. This section does
not prohibit events or exhibitions commonly featured at rodeos or bloodless bullfights."
Since pig wrestling is between an animal and a person and is not commonly featured at rodeos or bloodless bullfights, this cruel practice classifies as a crime against animals as per Wisconsin Law. Here is what Hog wrestling is all about: "Hog wrestling is a timed competition where four person teams enter the watery/muddy arena and try to catch-a-pig.
The goal is to catch, control and then carry the pig to the center of the ring, and then lifted up onto a padded barrel in 60 seconds or less. Each hog is only used once! Sixty teams try to Cham it up in one way or another; but it is the slippery pigs that are the center of attention. The porkers are clearly in the element, the
competitors clearly are not. The pigs are treated humanely; otherwise the entire team will get disqualified!" TREATED HUMANELY??? REALLY Pigs being punched in the face, kicked, body-slammed, jumped on, yelled at and thrown into a bucket - this is a
typical pig wrestling contest in Wisconsin. Using pigs in this form of
entertainment is inhumane ! Although pig wrestling is technically illegal according to the Wisconsin law, events still occur frequently around the state."We want to ask the Wisconsin Assembly Chief Clerk and Wisconsin Senate Chief Clerk to STOP the cruel and inhumane pig wrestling events in Wisconsin. We are deeply concerned about the illegality of these events and the threat they pose to animals, participants, and spectators.

Is it humane to drag these animals into an event that they obviously did not agree to? Is it humane to confuse,
scare, and hurt the pig by letting him be attacked and wrestled to the ground by groups of four .The pictures in the link above depicts scared animals being tackled violently to the ground. Children and their families look on, smiling at this silly event. To them, it might as well be a kiss-the-pig contest because, hey, the pigs are in their element. Yet, I doubt a single one of them could provide any reason why an event like this is either OK or necessary.
This is not a victimless event. This is not fun for all. This is not entertainment.
Please sign this Petition and send the letter to Wisconsin Assembly Chief Clerk and Wisconsin Senate Chief Clerk to
ask them to STOP the cruel and inhumane pig wrestling events in Wisconsin!
PLEASE educate yourself on nopigwrestling.org about pig wrestling and make it a summer resolution to put an end to this display of man's inhumanity.

STOP the Cruel and Inhumane Pig Wrestling in Wisconsin
Dear Sir/Madam,
We, the undersigned contacting you regarding pig wrestling events in Wisconsin. Using pigs for entertainment in this matter is inhumane, as the wrestling may impose emotional stress on the pigs, as evidenced by the fearful squealing. Pigs are very sensitive and prone to heart attacks when distressed. When a pig is stressed, it can enter a hypermetabolic state that generates excessively high temperatures and low pH's. This state can damage muscle cells and can lead to heart failure. Furthermore, the event causes physical torsional stress on the pigs' joints, in addition to any physical injuries which may be sustained from being manhandled by the contestants. Many fairs have already eliminated pig wrestling from their events.
These events are in violation of the Wisconsin Statues.
Chapter 951 of Wisconsin law:
951.08

We are deeply concerned about the immorality and illegality of these events, and the threat they pose to animals, participants, and spectators. Like all animals, pigs deserve our respect and compassion.
We do not support these cruel events and will boycott any fair or event holder that chooses to display animal cruelty in this form. These events are an embarrassment to Wisconsin. We urge you to put an end to pig wrestling events.
