Investigate BLMs Wild Horse & Burro Program NOW!

Target:
100,000
Sponsored by:
Over the last seven years, BLM has removed 75k wild horses and burros from public lands.  There are now more wild horses and burros in government holding pens than roaming free! In order to deal with this backlog of now captured animals, BLM is considering killing these majestic American icons by the tens of thousands to solve their financial "crisis".

Serious questions have been raised about "how" they are managing America's herds on every level and ONLY Congress has the power to demand answers and accountability for what has been done.

Whether the issue is rangeland management, genetically viable herds, highly questionable data, population numbers, Advisory Board Members, habitat loss, fencing, removing access to water, herds being replaced by livestock or big game species, emergency removals, their new For Sale Authority, compliance checks to insure they were not sold for slaughter - the list goes on and on!

Tell Congress enough is enough! If Congress can hold a hearing on steriod use, then surely they can look into what has been going on unchecked for over a decade in the Wild Horse and Burro Program!

PLEASE SPEAK OUT AND DEMAND ACCOUNTABILITY NOW
FOR AMERICA'S MUSTANGS AND BURROS TOMORROW!!!

Obama made a big mistake by appointing a retard like Ken Salazar as our Secretary of the Interior. If we wanted assholes like him in charge of our wildlife, we might as well have voted for Sarah Palin. Ken Salazar would have fit right in with the Bush administration. WE NEED TO GET RID OF KEN SALAZAR ASAP!!!!!!

Wild horses and burros have a place in our world, just as elephants tigers, zebras cyotes, wolves etc... Stop messing around with their natural habitate. If the cattle ranchers do not think there is enough grass land for their cattle and the wild horses then I guess the ranchers should suppliment their cattles feed. It is their responability. They chose to be ranchers.

This is an outrage. This Stallion should remain a stallion and be let go. He has survived for over 13 years without the help of our government and the herd too should be left alone. Doesn't the government have enough of a mess to clean up due to their lack of regulation on wall street that they have to concern themselves with matters that do not effect them. Obama and the whole governement needs an overhall...People need to rise because the government will keep the working class down, this is only an example of what our government is truly capable of. We have illegal aliens we support with tax payers money but the BLM is going to try and say that the tax payers are supporting the horses held in the round up. Simple save our money and get rid of the round up. As tax payers we have the right to allocate where our funds go. They are going to ignore our petitions until we see to it as one voice through our voting to get rid of the congress and senate as it stuffed with old fogies waiting to cash in on their own lucrative pensions TAX free and from OUR wallet. White collar thieves and murderers. Shame on them.. lets round them up and get rid of them. I intend to do my part.. Now people ban together and do yours..

This is like animal-Auschwitz! NOTHING can justify destroying more than half of any species! they are supposed to be protecting these animals, not making back-room cash with the cattle and sheep farmers, or destroying their land in search of uranium, oil, or anything else! There needs to be an immediate investigation...and all the Mustangs and burros being held should be returned to their herds!!

The removal of wild horses and burros by the BLM has happened in ways both horrifying and heartbreaking to animals and animal-lovers, alike. "BLM" should now stand for "Beneath Lowest of Men", due to their cruel and ridiculously secretive methodology.

Is the BLM above the law? It certainly acts as if it is, breaking laws, breaking promises and treating wild horses as they will. The BLM has betrayed the very horses it's supposed to protect. They put cattle ranchers, mining companies and other vested interests ahead of the welfare of the wild horses. This cannot be allowed to continue, or the wild horse in America will become extinct.

The American People deserve a full investigation into the policies and current management of America's Wild Horses and Burros. We deserve the truth. I have been working with and for Wild Horses and Burros for many, many years and I have seen VERY FEW round ups that actually involved horses or burros starving or were the cause of permanent land destruction. This is entirely fed by greed, politics and the money and power behind special interest. I truly believed we would have change and work for transparency with this new administration for the issues that impact the American People. A vast majority in this Country have and are now again calling for an investigation into the practices and tactics used by the BLM in this issue. Where is the transparency and TRUTH? This Country was built on the backs and with the blood of their ancestors. The very least we owe them is freedom from persecution and their right to live on the lands that have been designated as THEIR SAFE HAVEN. Laws have been broken and our horses and burros have been abused and used for greedy, selfish motives for far too long. We want an investigation and a moritorium on round ups immediately.

I teach a course on horses for a summer school program for at risk students. Three years ago I began showing the movie Cloud the Wild Stallion of the Rockies, It's amazing the concern in these childrens eyes and voices. How sad it would be to tell them that the wild horses are gone forever. Please help...

This is serious. These horses are OUR LEGACY has human inhabitants and must not be destroyed and must be returned to their rightfull numbers to raom wild. Stop the insanity of the BUSH era, stop the insanity of greed!

In the beginning of the running for President, Mr. Obama put out a statement that he would definitely look into the mismanagement of BLM's Wild Horse and Burro Program. I went to the Carson City, Nevada 'Obama for President' office the week it first opened. And, the people there verified Mr. Obama would definitely look into this mess if he was elected. Well, he won the election....... Please, President Obama, follow through on this. The American Wild Horse represents freedom and independence for so many Americans, especially now as we lose more and more of our freedoms each day. Thank you, Sincerely, H. The Bureau of Land Management's (BLM)inability to administer the budget of the Wild Horse and Burro program with any trace of accountability is a long-standing concern and must NOT be used as a death sentence upon these celebrated sybols of the American West. For instance, the 1990 GAO report - "Rangeland Management: Improvements Needed in Federal Wild Horse Program" (GAO/RCED-90-110)- found that the BLM lacked the data to even determine the number of wild horses and burros that the range can support and thus the number to be removed. Yet the BLM continued with its aggressive roundup regime that has now placed over half of the wild horse and burro population in holding pens. Congress passed the 1971 Free-roaming Wild Horse and Burro Act which designated range land in 10 States for wild horses and burros to run free. Why have 19 million acres belonging to wild horses and burros been (illegally) leased to cattle and oil interests? Who is holding the Dept. of the Interior (which includes the BLM) accountable for not abiding by the 1971 Free-roaming Wild Horse and Burro Act? With impunity this government agency continues to remove wild horses and burros from their lawful ranges and keeps them in holding pens where they languish. If they are not adopted on the third try, the slaughter houses get them. It's a sad commentary on the Dept. of the Interior and the agencies it supervises that it has allowed greed and corruption to take precedence over the lives of wild horses and burros.

BLM - you are runnig our horses and burros into the ground, not for the sake of the land, but for the sake of the cattle ranchers and the hunters who want these horses gone - out of their way. For our future generations, we cant even say please anymore - we have to all sit up and take action including more strength in numbers from our east coast residents who MUST speak up - all of us need to unite on the side of the horses and demand this constant rounding up be stopped!

One can only hope that it is only ignorant criminal behavior that believes there is any justification in slaughtering any horse. This criminal mentality to do this to our horses must be stopped. The American people have had enough. We need change, and we do not tolerate, the abuse, terror, and torture of our American Equines..these people must be put of of business. No excuse ever.

This is not just about the mismanagement of the wild horse and burro program, it is about the abuse of our public lands by the livestock industry through their control of the Bureau of Land Management which no longer acts in the public interest, but instead allows the overstocking of livestock on these sensitive ecological landscapes making them devoid of food for wildlife as well as wild horses.

This program has obviously failed. I believe it is the duty of congress to find out what happened. Who is responsible for this mismanagement? And now who is going to fix it? As a taxpaying citizen I would love to know what is happening to my dollars in this concern. If this level of ineptitude occurred in any other government program the American people would DEMAND accountability regardless of any emotional issues, and strictly based on facts. I am not sure about the rest of the country, but I feel safe in the assumption, if someone at a company failed this miserably, the over feed fat cat sitting in his office that messed everything up would be the 1st to loose his job.

What happen to all the land the Mustangs and Burros were given in the first place. Over 17 million acres was taken away from them? The round ups need to stop NOW....very invasive to the family herds. Put them back out on their land were they belong.....let nature take care of nature.

As an American taxpayer, it is my right to know where and how my dollars are being spent - particularly when the BLM cannot gives us viable independent scientific proof of their allegations that 'herds must be managed at sustainable levels' in an area over 10 Western states covering over a million square miles of wild open outback. The BLM continues to round up wild horses even after bemoaning the fact that they cannot feed and care for the over 30,000 wild horses and burros in holding facilities around the country. The round-ups are conducted in secrecy, without the public's knowledge and are subject to no public oversight. The round-ups are crudely and inhumanely carried out, with little forethought to the health or well-being of the animals themselves. Pregnant mares often abort their infants under the stress and terror of being herded by helicopter and infants already on the ground become separated from the herd, often for days before anyone bothers to go looking for them, with tragic results. The BLM seems to answer to no one but themselves and the lobbies they cater to. These animals and the land they range over belong to me as much as to the cattlemen and mining operations that seem to garner special consideration. The BLM needs to be held financially and morally accountable to me. Despite public outcry to stop the round-ups and to stay the executions of the animals already in BLM facilities, the BLM continues to behave autonomously. What they do is not in the realm of national security and should not be treated as such. Bring them to heel. Make them accountable.
