Demand to make setting up ladders at Mardi Gras parades illegal!

Mardi Gras in New Orleans was a wonderful part of my childhood in New Orleans. I am so saddened by the fact that my children can't grow up with the same kinds of experiences. They won't grow up standing on the "front lines" of a New Orleans parade route catching wonderful throws directed directly to them because of their adorable smiles or imaginative costumes. As a matter of fact, they will not be attending these parades at all in New Orleans. The last New Orleans parade I brought my children to a New Orleans parade they caught NOTHING! Grown people stood in front of them, drank and smoked around them and that was after we could barely find a spot to stand and park our stroller bc there were 3 rows of ladders that intusively lined the front edge of the route and blocked everyone else behind them, including thousands of children! It was such a dissapointing and infuriating experience that we will never bring our kids to New Orleans parades ever again. And dont even get me started on the horribly selfish people who "claim their parade spots" DAYS in advance of Mardi Gras with ladders and portable gazebos, tents, furniture, & blocking off sections of public neutral ground space with caution tape! These people need to be stopped! Make Mardi Gras a family celebration again New Orleans. m
