Don't Blame Interns' Clothes for Sexual Harrassment!

The Missouri legislature is considering a new conservative dress code for interns after two legislators resigned over sexual harassment allegations. Representative Nick King suggested, "We need a good, modest, conservative dress code for both the males and females. Removing one more distraction will help everyone keep their focus on legislative matters." Several other lawmakers agree.

Last May, Missouri House Speaker John Diehl resigned after he was revealed to have sent sexually suggestive messages to a 19-year-old intern.

Sending unwanted, sexual messages to anyone is unacceptable, regardless of how they are dressed. If a politician in a high position of power can't control himself from harassing a subordinate, the legislature needs to address his problem, not put the blame on the victim.

Men in power who view women as sex objects will continue to do so regardless of how women dress. Please sign the petition to urge Missouri legislators to stop blaming interns for sexual harassment, and instead to work towards treating people in a professional manner under all circumstances.
