Don't Sentence Disabled Senior to Life in Prison for Growing Weed!

A disabled 76-year-old man is serving life in prison without possibility of parole. His crime? Growing marijuana.

Lee Carroll Brooker, a disabled veteran, says he was growing the marijuana plants for personal medicinal use. He was sentenced in October 2014, when he was 2014, and will turn 77 in June. Because of previous felony convictions from decades ago, he was sentenced under Alabama law to a mandatory life sentence for possessing more than two pounds of marijuana.

Serving a life sentence for a drug possession offense should be considered cruel and unusual punishment. Much time has passed since Brooker's previous crimes, and his recent conviction was for a non-violent offense. Brooker should be given the chance to live the remaining years of his life in peace, with his family.

Please sign the petition to urge Alabama's governor to commute Brooker's life sentence to probation or a short prison term!
