Koalas on the brink of extinction

Can you imagine Australia without Koalas?
Koalas are on the brink of extinction. The Australian Federal Government and in particular the Queensland State Government have been making beautiful plans and strategies for the past 18 years. All were just paper tigers as the clearing of eucalypt trees is continuing. Koalas cannot be relocated, because the government says this will accommodate the developers. The truth is that  koalas are losing the battle. Research shows that the Koala Coast in South East Queensland will have no koalas left in 2010 - that is next year!!!!
Please sign the petition and tell the Queensland Government they need to act NOW in order to save this Australian Icon.
We the undersigned are extremely concerned about the escalating decline of the KOALA population. Millions of people all over the world travel to Australia to see koalas and kangaroos. This is generating millions of tourist dollars. How sad would it be that in the future the only place you can see koalas will be in zoos and sanctuaries? The South East Queensland Regional Plan (2009-31) is about to become the BLUNT INSTRUMENT THAT WILL KILL OFF THE LAST KOALAS. There is only one way to save them and that is to place an immediate moratorium on more population growth and urban development in South East Queensland. Premier Anna Bligh should know it's time to walk away from the greed and short-sighted influences of the development industry.  Because of this we feel that the development industry have been hijacking democracy for the people in Queensland as they have been denied the opportunity to choose the future they want and instead find themselves forced to accept an unsustainable growth agenda which has led to the continuing overdevelopment with tragic consequences not the least of which is the loss of biodiversity owing to the relentless loss of habitat.
Please Premier Anna Bligh - you can save the koalas from becoming extinct, but you will have to act NOW.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.
