DONAHUE SHRIBER, a shopping mall REIT, wants to close a valuable community service, our beloved commercial laundry in Del Mar, CA. This laundry, located at Beachside Del Mar, has been open for over 30 years and serves the surrounding community (well beyond Del Mar) including residents, businesses, vacationing tourists, hotels, the Del Mar Fair, the Del Mar Racetrack, Del Mar Polo Club, Torrey Pines Golf Tournaments, and many others.
It is the only facility in the entire North County with large commercial machines capable of large loads up to 80 pounds. Everything else around are nothing more than top load washers you see in any home. These are not adequate for anything but residential use of clothing.
Why do they want to end the lease? To open yet another coffee shop, or liquor store, or restaurant! There are hundreds of these in surrounding communities. We don't need more of the same, we need this irreplaceable service. It's hard to understand their logic!
DONAHUE SHRIBER is a multi-billion dollar corporation and owns over 65 malls in America, and naturally have a fiscal responsibility to their shareholders. But mall owners also have an ethical responsibility to ensure a mix of services that meets the community's needs. Donahue doesn't seem to care as this issue has been going on for some time. The community needs this service and if shut down will not return for many years elsewhere - if ever.
Sign this petition and show them that you care and to be informed regarding our next actions within the community (media, protests, boycotts, etc.)
Please also leave comments and also call them at 858-793-5757 and express your desire to keep this business open for the good of our communities. If we give no voice then they will believe this is a non-issue. Very large corporations too often are unsympathetic to local community issues. Only YOU can make a difference.
