Selling pets on Craigslist is actually against Craigslist's Terms of Service, but the company is failing to enforce their own rules, leaving hundreds of helpless animals open to abuse. Most people offer to give away their pets for FREE. They have no idea the environment their pet is going into. It is unfair and not right in any sense.
Craigslist also needs to stop "Free to Good Home"ads. The animals are even more in danger from these ads.
Here are several ways animals given away on Craigslist could be in danger:
Take a stand against animal abuse and help put an end to selling animals for a small fee and giving away for free ALL ANIMALS on Craigslist.
I am writing to ask that Craigslist make a public and concrete plan to address animal abuse. Currently, hundreds of pets are given away for free on your website/sold for a small fee, and there is no tracking of the welfare of these animals. People who torture and kill animals search Craigslist for animal listings to find their victims; dogs can be used in dog fights; research facilities can get test subjects.
None of these uses are safe for the animals and it is Craigslist's responsibility to prevent abuses like this from happening, especially in cases where the victims cannot speak for themselves.
