In 1994, Arkansas passed a state-wide law making it a misdemeanor, punishable by up to 6 months in prison, for any "person, club, camp, corporation, partnership, association, or organization to advocate, demonstrate or promote nudism, or person to rent, lease, or otherwise permit his or her land, premises, or buildings to be used for the purpose of advocating, demonstrating or promoting nudism." In 2005, the Arkansas Government amended the law making it a class A misdemeanor (one level shy of being a felony) punishable by up to one year in prison.
This means that, not only is it illegal for any person to establish or visit a nudist/naturist beach, club, resort, event or other venue, but it is effectively illegal for any Arkansan to lobby the Government to overturn the law, as the Government could class this as "advocating nudism," and such protestor could get charged just for doing that.
I, a Canadian, have decided to give my own voice to the Arkansas Government to repeal this law. It would, ineed, be disrespectful to publically walk around naked. On the other hand, nakedness in the general public is not the focus of this law. This law criminalises mere nudism (a social, non-sexual practice of simple nakedness) in secluded and sanctioned areas. I am willing to offer my voice on the behalf of Arkansans, who have no voice because of the language of this law.
Dear Governor Mike Beebe,
Laws should be made to protect people from each other, themselves, and to protect society. Who benefits from this law against nudism?
