Temporary Employees Should Receive Consideration

Between the dates of February 11-14, 2014, many temps in South Carolina could not go to work due to accumulations of snow, ice and freezing rain, which made road conditions extremely hazardous for the general public, endangering the health, safety and welfare of South Carolinians. South Carolina was declared state of emergency.

In ordinary situations, Temps already do not get paid for sick days, or vacations days if we have not accrued at least 1500 hours. As a single woman who owns a home and provides for self, losing 3 days pay was a hard hit to my income. I'm sure a single mom with 2 or 3 children would agree with me. For her, it would be a matter of paying her rent or buying food for her children. Let us not forget she also has to pay for child care.

On February 24, 2014, an Executive Order came from Governor Nikki Haley declaring that all state employees absent from work, as directed on February 11, 12, 13 & 14, 2014, due to the closing of state offices caused by hazardous weather conditions are hereby granted leave with pay.

Therefore, I am requesting temporary employees receive the same consideration in this matter and be granted leave with pay.
