Stop Making My High School AP Classes Illegal in Florida

Four days before school was set to start on August 10, 2023, I was told that the AP Psychology Class on my schedule was removed because my third-period teacher could be arrested! What for? Simply for teaching Unit 6. It could be a crime for him to do his job and educate students.

Thanks to Florida's Parental Rights in Education law ("Don't Say Gay Bill") prohibits discussions of sexuality and gender identity in Florida classrooms. Part of AP content is on developmental psychology, which focuses on how social and physical changes over humans’ lifespans can influence their behavior.

Students are caught in the politics of parental rights in the supposedly free state of Florida.
It is unfathomable that politics tie into an AP course perfectly fine in the other 49 states.

Discussions in kindergarten through third-grade classes are far different from a high school college-level class. The College Board said in its statement that removing discussions of sexuality and gender invalidated the AP course and that Florida had “effectively banned” it.
The problem couldn't be resolved by removing Unit 6 because if my teacher doesn't include all of the units, I could lose the AP certification.

After COVID, I thought I had an open chance to continue my education without endless Zoom sessions. I never imagined that basic courses would be banned. My school may physically be open, but I am not free.

Update: they reversed their decision, so once again I am able to take this class. But, in Florida this should be a wake-up call to what is happening. Books are being banned left and right and AP courses are made illegal.

If Governor Desantis becomes president, there is no telling what he will do. I want the Parental Rights in Education law found unconstitutional. And I want more awareness of what is happening to students in Florida.
