Stronger Animal Welfare Laws in Canada NOW!

  • by: Aleah Loney
  • recipient: Members of Parliament, Senators, Justice Minister Rob Nicholson, the Harper Government
From dog fighting to puppy mills, from sexual abuse to laboratories, from zoos to factory farms, Canadian Animal Welfare laws are lacking.  Canadian Animal Welfare laws currently date back to 1892 and are thus, outdated, inhumane, and insufficient to provide necessary legal action for contemporary cases of cruelty against animals.

We, the undersigned, urge our representatives to work to the best of their ability to fight for stronger anti-cruelty and animal welfare laws in Canada.  To do so, we urge them to support the general principles of Bill C-229 introduced by Mark Holland and we demand that they urge the government to introduce a government bill based on C-229.  This is not a partisan issue but one that concerns all Canadians, and all the animals within our borders.

As constituents, we demand that our representatives use their power to equip Canada's legal system with the laws it needs to bring justice for those who cannot speak for themselves.
