The Giant Sea Bass or the Black Bass is a huge  fish that reaches a size of over 7 feet or about 2.1 meter and it weights about 220 kg or 484 Lbs, its color varies from orange when it is  young to bronzy purple till it becomes  solid black to grey as an adult. Its habitat extends from the Humboldt bay in California to the tip of the Baja in Mexico, the massive over-fishing brought the  Giant Sea Bass to the edge of extinction as more than 90 % of it has been  fished between 1932 and 1980 in both US and Mexico, in 1981 it was protected in the US and in 1992 it was  protected in Mexico , in 2000 the International Union for Conservation of Nature classified it as Critically Endangered .

Major threats are the permission of two fish per angler per trip in the US and Mexico and one fish per trip by commercial fishermen that made its population even decrease more , suffering from toxin poisoning along the California coast from Mercury, DDE and PCB which was banned to use in US since 1970 but its hard to break it down because it still exists and in high percentage till now and even for decades from now and that interferes with the normal reproductive biology of the Giant Bass and other fishes as well as amphibians and birds .A new research made by Los Angeles state Water Board found , which examined more than 2000 fish from waters near Los Angeles and San Fransisco showed  that 90 % of fishes contain mercury in high concentrations, that they shouldn't be eaten by young women and children because it can lead to nervous system damages and developmental problems in children and cause cancer , liver damage and reproductive harm.
