There is no reason why smoking cigarettes on beaches in Florida and leaving butts in the sand and water for wildlife to snack on should be legal.
Smoking cigarettes is bad enough as it is, one puff contains a hundred trillion free radicals and can cause health problems to anybody else inhaling it. Discarded cigarette butts and filters remaining in the sand and ocean waters contain the same chemicals as the cigarette including carcinogens, heavy metals cadmium, lead and arsenic and other poisons. They're highly toxic and non biodegradeable eventually contaminating beaches, soil, bodies of water, and the wildlife depending on its ecosystem.
The sand is flawless during the cold months until the Spring breakers invade the beach and you can't step into the sand without a cigarette butt on the ground.
Please stop allowing people to abuse their right and ban cigarette smoking off of Florida beaches.
