The coalition government's recent announcement that fracking is to be resumed in Lancashire is not welcome!
Heavy reliance on gas, be it imported from elsewhere or from our shale deposits, will not bring down energy prices in the long run, and will do nothing to help the environment either! The idea that Fracking is a "greener" alternative is laughable, heavily relying on the (true) fact that burning gas will release less carbon into the atmosphere than burning coal, but totally ignoring the (also true) problems with fracking: problems like leakage of methane into the atmosphere, water and soil pollution, and massive environmental cost of building fracking wells in greenfield land around the country.
THERE ARE BETTER, GREENER ALTERNATIVES and the only reason fracking is being embraced is the pursuit of short term gains, short term improvement of economic growth figures, and profit. We are not fooled,and ask the UK government to recognise that it is being dishonest to everyone if it claims otherwise.
