Horses, goats, pigs, ducks and even an alpaca in Sutton Coldfield are the latest recipients
of a police fund which has seen over £1 million ploughed back into communities across
the West Midlands.
Forge Farm Stables, the animals’ Minworth home, is about to undergo a makeover thanks
to a donation by officers from Birmingham North’s local policing unit.
From its Lindridge Drive home, the animal sanctuary not only gives a new lease of life
to rescued animals, but also offers a range of community activities for people living
in the Minworth area and further afield.
And officers have been so impressed with the work being carried out by manager Dionne Yap
that she was awarded £2,000 from the force’s Police Property Act.
PC Jenna Shaw from the Sutton News Hall naighbourhood team, who visited the sanctuary to hand over
the cheque, said: “Anyone who knows the area will remember that a few years back this land
was overgrown wasteland that was used as a dumping ground and subjected to anti-social behaviour.
“But over the years Dionne has dedicated her time to make the sanctuary the success that it is today.
Throughout this process she has worked with limited funds, with the sanctuary holding its own fundraising events,
so we are delighted to be able to make a donation and allow this amazing work to continue.”
Over the past five years, West Midlands Police has donated over £1 million to local good causes
through the fund which secures cash from the sale of property which has been seized
by police as part of an investigation and where the rightful owner cannot be found.
