Please sign and share this petition to gain justice for Lexie the dog who was shot 15 times by an officer for no apparent reason and without any remorse. This officer appeared to have premeditated intent in killing this young, one-year old pet. Such an officer does not belong in this capacity where he is supposed to serve and protect his community, and that includes family pets like Lexie!

This incident began last fall when Lexie's owner, Brittany Preston left the dog with the grandfather. The man suffers from dementia and accidentally left her outdoors, at which time she was barking excessively. There is no hearsay in this case because what happened next was all caught on the officers dash cam. He could be heard saying, "The only thing I'm gonna do is shoot it, anyway. I do not like dogs. I don't do snares, I don't do dogs ... I'll shoot the f--king thing."

When confronted, the elder man originally stated he did not know who the dog belongs to. The officer proceeds to respond "Hey, here is what I'm gonna tell you, if this isn't your dog, then you don't care if I shoot it because I'm about to. I'm very close to killing this dog, do you understand what I'm telling you right now? I will kill this dog. So if this is your damn dog, bring it in the house." The man has dementia and did not understand the demands of this officer, finally stating that the dog he thinks belongs to his granddaughter, Ms. Brittany Preston.

Before the man could bring the dog indoors for his granddaughter, the officer shot Lexie four times. The grandfather approaches the officer and can be heard on the dash cam saying "What the f--k, you shooting it right in front of me," he asked. The officer replied, "It attacked us, sir," to which Preston's grandfather replied, "I don't think so. You guys ought to go on TV."

After the confrontation, the officer shot the dog again and Lexie could be heard crying and yelping in distress, but still alive. The poor animal was shot additional times and all the evidence of the cruelty was caught on the dash cam of the offending officer. There was further discussion on how to deal with Lexie who was still breathing despite her multiple wounds. It was so disgusting and appalling as the discussion went something like this as presented in a lawsuit: "Defendant police officers asked defendant Massey if he could 'choke it out.'" "Another police officer suggested using a shovel to kill Lexie. Defendant Massey remarked that doing so would not be a good idea because, 'You know this s--t is going to be all over Facebook in about an hour,' to which a police officer responded, 'yeah, unfortunately.'" The dash cam later captures Massey using a catch-pole to walk a badly wounded Lexie to the animal control truck.

Lexie passed on from her injuries and the veterinarian performed a necropsy that noted the poor animal sustained 15 bullet holes in her body. "You do the math," he said. "Evidently, based on the number of bullet holes, they shot Lexie several more times once she was taken away in that animal control truck." Lexie's owner is devastated and asking for compensation "in a fair and reasonable amount" for the shooting of her beloved pet. This was clearly undue and cruel actions on the behalf of these officers involved and they need to be fired immediately, never to hurt another animal or even a human. These people are supposed to help stop animal cruelty yet they shoot a dog for no reason because they do not like dogs!!!???

Michigan Law Enforcement and Judicial System - The officer(s) involved in this case, shooting the dog Lexie for no apparent reason (because they don't like dogs) need to be taken off of the force immediately and the dog's owner compensated. Obviously, they can't bring Lexie back but she suffered unnecessary suffering at the hands of these brutal people who are supposed to serve and protect people and their families. Pets are family! Punish the officer(s) severely and fire them immediately in the name of this poor animal, her owner and the entire community who relies on law enforcement for protection. This indeed is NOT protection.
