Platini to force Ukrainian authorities to solve the problem in a civilised way or to deprive Ukraine of the right to receive EURO-2012!!!

Dear Mr. Platini!

We the undersigned ask you to pay attention to the terrible mass murder of stray animals in Ukraine. These shameful actions of Ukrainian authorities directed at the creation of the "good image" of Ukrainian cities to receive tourists and football fans during EURO-2012.

The Association of Animals Protection Organizations of Ukraine is founded in April, 8, 2009 with the purpose to force the central authorities as well as local ones to fulfill the law of Ukraine %u201CAbout protection of animals from the cruel treatment%u201D, which was passed as far as 21.02.06. The Association unites animals protection organizations of almost all regions of Ukraine. Nevertheless the terrible situation of stray animals remains a crying problem everywhere. The authorities don%u2019t care to solve this problem in a human way. Not only animals suffer, but so do people because most of Ukrainians are kind-hearted and merciful. They help stray animals, cure and sterilize them at their own expense and they can%u2019t resign themselves to the tragic death of their pets from flayers%u2019 hands.

Unfortunately in many Ukrainian cities they still shoot stray animals with a curare-like poison dithylinum, which breaks the law twice.  But even in the places where the local programs of stray animals sterilization are passed and financed (which is undoubtedly a step forward) the problem is not being solved either because the money are being misappropriated while interested public organizations are totally pushed aside from the participation in these programs, even more so from the control of them. The glaring example of such situation is Kharkiv and Kyiv where the executors of above mentioned programs are dishonest people close to the authorities. The most important thing for them is a personal enrichment.  The failure of the authorities to have a positive effect on the situation leads to the drastic increase of stray animals%u2019 population on the streets. In its turn it causes obvious displeasure of the inhabitants of the cities.

The situation is getting its critical point before the upcoming EURO-2012, when striving for looking like a civilized country is leading to the mass murdering of stray animals on the urban streets. In case if the honour to receive the EURO-2012 takes such price as thousands of stray animals%u2019 lives we would prefer to give up such honour!

We are convinced that the country which wants to receive the EURO-2012 matches must really be a European one and not just look like.  This means the necessity to accept the Europeans moral standards and to create conditions to respond them including the stray animals ethical treatment.  It takes not that much %u2013 just to influence Ukrainian authorities and the organizers of EURO-2012 in Ukraine (not poor people at all) in person to persuade them to help personally to solve the stray animals%u2019 problem in human ways. It will also raise the prestige of Ukraine in the civilized world.
We call for UEFA authorities, for football fans and sportsmen all over the world as well as all the people who have a heart and love animals to boycott Ukraine as  EURO-2012 host until the problem of stray animals is solved in a civilized way!

Thank you for your time and hope for your attention to our plea!

Yours sincerely,

The President of the Association

of Animals Protection Organizations

of Ukraine

Asya Serpinska
