Many innocent people have died at the hands of the police. I need not, nor could I, list them all. Now a baby in a crib has been seriously harmed. Why has this happened???? These tragedies could and should have been avoided.
Fellow citizens have been harassed and humiliated for no good reason. This cannot be laid at the door of "rogue cops" - this is an epidemic. The horrifying fact is that the attitude of our police forces seems to be that the safety of the police be set above the well-being of all others. It seems that individuals do not matter so much. Somehow, catching the "bad guy" matters more than our safety or rights. Shouldn't our police make us feel more secure not less secure?
The basic tenet of our police is "protect and serve" - not "protect and serve special interest groups". Furthermore, police should never be set a notch above the average citizen. They should never be trained to be bullies. They should be trained well enough and led well enough that neither people nor their pets are harmed through carelessness or arrogance. In addition, so-called profiling leads to abuse of our rights and invasion of our privacy. We call upon our leaders to do something about this intolerable injustice.
