Help Protect Michigan's Great Lakes shorelines

As we all know, if shorelines are not protected and  built up with trees, shoreline grases, rocks and sands that are pushed up to build a protection against the raging waters, then things like what happened in New Orleans can happen.  When the shoreline is not protected and kept in it's natural habitat it eventually washes away leaving no place for the birds, tiny animals and creatures so tiny also that we may not even know they are there but they all make up the shoreline ecosystem.  The birds need a stopping ground during their long flights, places with trees and to rest and feed off the tiny creatures going on about their business down on the shore like digging wholes, making nests for their litters, feeding off  the fish & insects.  In my backyard alone since I've kept my part of the shorline protected, I have living in my backyard on Lake Erie, rabbits, ground hogs, racoons, sometimes a fox, ducks, geese, blue herons, swans, seagulls, eagles, cardinals, blue jays, hummingbirds, dragonflys, butterflys, chicadies, robins, purple martins, just to name a few.  I don't use pestisides, I pull weeds myself, I plant loads of flowers for the birds & bees,   I let the trees grow down on the beach to give the ground a strong hold from washing out, there are plenty of rocks and sticks and plant life that specific grasses that hold the shorline together.  We need to use non toxic pestisides if we must and keep our shorelines as natural as possible.  This is just one part of protecting our environment but it ties in with the whole picture.
