Every fan knows that Major League Baseball has been on the proverbial downslide in recent years. The contracts that are being handed out recently have been astronomical and it is slowing eliminating competition throughout the league since most teams can't compete with the bigger market teams i.e. Yankees, Red Sox, and Angels. If this trend continues, there will be All-Stars sitting on the bench becase they can't fit on the roster of certain teams. Please take the time to read over the facts and research the state that baseball is currently in if you need more convincing. Rest assured, you should'nt find any problems attaching your name to this important list.

Mr. Selig,
Please impose a salary cap. Look at the success of the NFL. Any team can win any Sunday and there is always a mix of different teams in the playoffs every year. It keeps things excited and fans engaged across the US.
BE HONEST TO YOURSELF, ONLY NY, LA, CHICAGO, AND BOSTON, AND MAYBE ST LOUIS HAVE REALISTIC SHOTS AT A TITLE IN MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL.
NO ONE ELSE CAN AFFORD TO KEEP THEIR STARS. PLEASE HELP TO SAVE THE GAME. AND FORGIVE PETE ROSE ALREADY, WE HAVE FORGIVEN A-ROD, AND HE USED PEDS!!

Its ridiculous that the yankees get first priority on every free agent that becomes available... its completely unequal and its made teams like the A's, Twins, Rays, Pirates, etc. essentially minor league teams for the Yankees and Red Sox. (I'm a Mets and Red Sox fan, two teams with very high payrolls, and I'm still in favor of a salary cap)

Yes. I am tired, tired, tired of the Yankees winning our division. They are the highest paid team in baseball...is that fair, is that American???? Is it fair when even the refs go their way??? I don't think so.

Won`t be able to bring my 9 year old to AAA or MLB baseball. With the ever growing popularity of soccer and other xtreme sports for kids, there won`t be any pitchers in the next 10 years. Perhaps create a salary cap between $50 and $100M based on previous year wins. You will need to unload players the next year and the emphasiseput on coaching and scouting. With future expansion looking at 1M and 1.5 M population cities, I can`t see it happening without a CAP. Baseball is very different from hockey, football and soccer. It`s a unique drama filled event.
With all the controversy with drugs and Selig, it would be sad to see Americans turn off baseball. There could be an alternative league someday. I`m hoping to see an MLB team back here someday.

A sport without a salary cap is archaic and outdated. Baseball has become a has-been without one.

The over-paying of certain free agents by some high spending teams is killing any chance for small market teams to acquire good players and only hurts baseball as a whole... change it or you will lose many many fans, including me.

The MLB should require both maximum and minimum expenditures to ensure teams are given both equal purchasing power and to hold owners accountable for developing their respective teams, rather than keeping profits in their personal coffers. The MLB experience is becoming inflated to the point that the average baseball fan cannot enjoy a game, and all of its basics, without spending a fortune on tickets, $20 parking, $10 sodas, and $5 hot dogs. It's a joke at this point. Though the MLB and its teams are businesses, the business model as a whole is destine to collapse.

We need a salary cap because these players make enough money as it is. The higher that the player makes, the harder it will be for us (the fans) to attend the games. Sodas at a game cost $5.00 now! Keep going MLB! With the way you are just ignoring this, you will see when ballparks start to close. Don't say that we didn't warn you. Salray caps must be iniciated now!

There needs to be a minimum and maximum fixed salary cap in baseball. The wealthier teams can still lure talent away from other clubs because they can afford the luxury tax.

There needs to be a system where the top and bottom teams are held accountable. The rich teams shouldn't be able to buy the best odds and the poorer teams should have to perform or bow out.

How are small market teams suppose to compete with the larger market teams? The Yankees and the Red Sox spend outrageous amounts of money on mediocre players, almost expecting to buy a championship. Smaller market teams just can't compete with that.
The NFL and NHL have caps in place to prevent overspending and honestly, the MLB should follow suit. I've been a huge fan of baseball my entire 27 years of life but my interest is slowly waning.

If you care about the majority of America, you will make its own sport fair for every fan who watches. Its very hard for me to be interested in the game when I realze my team has no, and will have no chance.

The state baseball in is ridiculous. Bud Selig, you have done nothing to change MLB for the better. Instead, you allow Major League Baseball teams to buy their own championships. Every other major sport has a salary cap and look at how much more exciting they are to watch. Don't look now but teams actually have to make wise choices in the market in the NBA, NHL, and NFL. However, the Yankees can spend $100,000,000 on a one year contract for Barry Bonds and they only have spent half their money and still have MORE THAN TWICE the amount of the Pirates and MORE THAN SIX TIMES as much money as the Marlins. Hey, don't worry about it though, Bud, as long as the Yankees and Red Sox are happy, you're happy.
Take it easy,
.phieralph.

I'm signing this petition, but I don't see it happeniong in the near future, as the MLB Player's Association is one of the most powerful unions in the world and they don't want a cap.
