Update July 8,2015: Statement Issued by Sega President Haijime Satomi via Famitsu: “Sega in the ‘90s was known for its ‘brand, but after that, we’ve lost trust, and we were left with nothing but ‘reputation. For this reason, we’d like to win back the customers’ trust, and become a ‘brand,’ once again.”

Because on April 1,2015, Sega Corporation,Inc which was formed on August 1,2000 solely as a software game publisher was officially dissolved and replaced with not one,not two, but three NEW divisions: Sega Games,Ltd, Sega Interactive,Ltd and Sega Networks all under the umbrella of Sega's new Holdings division, SEGA Holdings,Ltd.

Haijime Satomi himself has stated that he would like for SEGA to return to console hardware.

Here's each new divisions' website url:

SEGA was the embodiment of the glory days of gaming. Back in the 90s, Japanese publishers ruled the world. And in those days, it wasn't limited to just 3 lousy game genres: First Person Shooters,Shovelware, Cash-in low grade indie games. There were mainly RPGs,Co-Op games, Arcade ports,Puzzle games, Card games and PLENTY of platformers. Publishers had quality control. THEY took pride in assuring lastibility in gaming shelf life. Plus games didn't cost $60-70 dollars. Most costed $40-50 EVEN during the 4th gen 16-bit years. SEGA cared DEEPLY about quality and each console they made(except 32X) was built with both lastibility, sturdiness, affordability and left a significant impact on people. The unique designs as well as the indelible in house 1st party game talent they had.

Since the 7th gen, that's been missing. And since 2008, MANY glorious gaming publishers have went the way of the dinosaurs. Also missing is 1st party quality titles and AAA games. Due to the fact that the cost of game development has reached an all time high, Japanese publishers are doubling down and shifting towards mobile and Steam.

SEGA has ALL the resources to change this. Don't believe the nasty, often misunderstood hyperbole about them or their finances, Sega is actually quite wealthy and has MORE than enough money to release their own home consumer product:

http://www.morningstar.com/stocks/PINX/SGAMY/quote.html

$10 billion in cash flow is MORE than enough to rebuild their console brand. Sega doesn't need to waste that on 3rd party overpriced, underperforming, and unmarketed games nobody will buy. This is why they they're primarily focused on mobile and PC games.

So your probably asking, does SEGA have plans? Are options on the table for them to eventually return to consoles?

All of the source material here should provide that answer:

Sega has also filed and registered dozens of Trademark brands referring to hardware and also suddenly had renewed their old hardware IP trademark licenses in 2009:

 https://trademarks.justia.com/737/42/sega-73742284.html

https://trademarks.justia.com/751/67/sega-75167958.html

https://trademarks.justia.com/762/01/sega-rosso-76201257.html

The even more interesting aspect is that SEGA has embedded all of those registration numbers into the application for "S Sega" and "Sega Networks":

https://trademarks.justia.com/791/38/s-sega-79138417.html

Although people have dismissed this as only being related to Sega Networks, notice how all the other descriptions completely pertain to Sega Games,Sega Interactive,Sega Holdings.

Because this is also a Worldwide Intellectual Property Trademark brand, everything in this application applies to the entire company. ALL of its divisions, this is why Sega has restructured completely and why Sega of America is relocating to Southern California.

Speaking of SEGA of America, take a gander at these job listings:

http://hire.jobvite.com/CompanyJobs/Careers.aspx?c=qds9Vfwt&v=1&page=Job+Description&j=oQJW0fwf

This is indeed indicating R&D plans at SEGA. As well as this: http://buzz.sega.jp/about/

Last but not least are several pending Japanese Trademarks from SEGA that have yet to be sent to the WIPO:

So what all that said, the answer is obvious. THERE are indeed plans on the table. The question is,"What type of console?".

It is my understanding that based on patent number #8264624, on this: https://trademarks.justia.com/852/64/kids-pad-85264286.html and on this multi brand filed ITU back in 2012: https://trademarks.justia.com/855/17/orbi-85517210.html

That SEGA has a Notebook/Tablet style game console waiting in the wings. either called "Sega RingEdge Zero" or "Sega Cathode" based on this message from Masami Ishikawa back in late 2013:

http://www.siliconera.com/2013/09/18/segas-original-hardware-developer-talks-about-the-companys-past-consoles/

The hybrid has a design similar to an ultrabook and will likely contain the following specs:

SEGA also looks as to have solved the problem regarding expensive development costs: https://trademarks.justia.com/791/47/cathode-79147094.html

The other questions that linger are: Can SEGA really pull it off? YOU have to believe they CAN. If SEGA had a partnership and joint venture deal with the likes of Toshiba or Apple, they certainly could.

How many people would buy it? I'm inclined to believe 22 million people in the world are STILL dedicated to Sega hardware. Many of them on Steam and PC gaming.

Can SEGA SAVE the Japanese gaming industry from getting trounced? Yes. WE NEED Japanese publishers who don't churn out Call of Duty clones and we can't keep watching AAA games fail to break even and destroy big name publishers.

How much would it sell for and how much would retail titles cost? The hybrid would be sold at $250-300 and games would retail non digital for $30-50 dollars. Digitally for full download $15-25 dollars.

Now, I understand this is a rather long message. But hear me out fellow Sega fans. I want you to know the truth. That you can't rely on so called game sites or terrible communities like Sonicstadium  (who Don't care about Sega only when can they make the next mediocre 3rd party Sonic title to satifisfy the fanatics' lusts) or garbage like Neo Gaf. Read this to skip the hyperbole and get straight to the REAL facts.

To SEGA fans who read this, I only have one request for you: Spread the word out! Not just this petition, make your own. It doesn't matter  how short or long it is, it can be a "Make a Dreamcast 2" one. Just get the message out to the NEW management at Sega of America and SEGA of Japan. There needs to be, dozens, I repeat DOZENS of Petitions for Sega to release another console in order for your voices to be heard. We all need to drown out those annoying "Make Shenmue 3 for PS4" petitions.

This BTW is what inspired me to make this petition:

https://www.change.org/p/sega-of-america-to-design-and-release-a-sega-dreamcast-limited-edition-console
