End the Epidemic of Maternal Mortality

  • by: Allison Walker

A half of a million women die each year from pregnancy by preventable health issues. In many developing countries women are discriminated against and do not receive basic care while pregnant and no medical treatment before and after labor. These women are denied the right to an education, let alone sex education and are trapped. Maternal mortality is most extreme in Sub-saharan Africa and South Asia. Because of this 1 million children are left motherless each year, and those children are ten times more likely to die in their childhood. Maternal mortality is an epidemic, a tragedy that women face everyday in developing nations. This petition is to raise awareness, and pressure our government to shine a light on this issue and take action.
