Toys "R" Us should be a family store - tell them not to open on Thanksgiving!

Toys "R" Us wants us to think it's family friendly, but the truth is that once you get past the advertisements, the corporation isn't actually very friendly at all to its own employees' families. The famous toy chain plans to open its doors not at 5 a.m. on Black Friday, but at 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving itself, when many of its employees' families are just sitting down to the big meal together!

This is not the message about family time that Toys "R" Us should be sending to its young and impressionable customers - and it's certainly not the way it should be treating its employees and the children who wish they were home for the holiday.

Raise your voice as a potential customer and tell Toys "R" Us: Mistreating your employees is not the way to increase your profits! Thanksgiving should be a paid holiday - keep your stores closed and let your workers' families be together!

If stores like GameStop, Barnes & Noble, Costco, Jo-Ann Fabric, T.J.Maxx, Dillard's, and many more can do the right thing, so can Toys "R" Us!

Dear Mr. Urcelay, I always considered Toys "R" Us to be a family-friendly store -- until I heard that you're opening at 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving! That's not being very friendly to your own employees' families at all. It's not very friendly to MY family, either -- this is not the message about family time or holiday traditions that you should be sending to your young and impressionable customers. Stores like GameStop, Costco, Barnes & Noble, Ace Hardware, Patagonia, Dillard's, Crate and Barrel, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Bed Bath & Beyond, Burlington Coat Factory, and REI are all treating their employees right by remaining closed on Thanksgiving. These are the types of family-friendly businesses I want to support. If they can do the right thing, so can you! Keep your stores closed on Thanksgiving and give your employees a paid holiday!
