To balance the budget the Toronto Catholic District School Board, (TCDSB) decided to cancel all bus services for children within a 1.5 kms distance from the school.
The only alternative option given by the Trustees was that parents walk their children to school - which is not a bad idea, except that the schools don't open until 9 am and close at 3:30 pm, and most families start and finish work before and after these school hours.
Other Districts offer bus services for a fee or Before and After School Daycare Programs, however, these were not suggested. Now many families are scrambling to find alternatives for September - from having to change schools and even Boards, to private transportation services.
Secondly, without bus services, daycare becomes an issue for several families, as several children use bus services to come from and to go to their before and after school daycare programs.
Please sign the Petition to let the TCDSB Trustees know that you are not onside with their approach nor their decision. You want options and more engagement. Making a decision without sufficient notice and engagement is not acceptable.
