Every year the landfills are filled with billions of trillions of plastic bags. Many bags blow out and are dumped into our oceans killing our animals, the plastic in the bags become toxic chemicals that then affect us. A lot of nations have banned plastic bags or have stopped giving away free bags which greatly reduced the waste produced, though the United States only has one city that has banned plastic bags. The U.S. seriously needs to start banning free plastic bags because it will not only save the planet but the oil dependencies.

Plastic bags are very useful and they don't cost a lot. Don't ban them altogether but make them oxo-degradable so that they self-destruct, leaving no fragments, no methane, and no harmful residues. Don't go for compostable, as they cost too much and nobody wants to compost plastic anyway.
