The Clarence Valley council covers an area of some 10.440 km 2, it services 44 towns, villages and city enviroments, and serves 49,422 residents.
Grafton Pound take in animals from all these area's----yet
We have a pound that is only open for 1 hour a day, giving animal's impounded there little if no chance of finding a home.
The pound only has 10 small dark, damp kennels and 2 very small outside runs, most dogs never get out to use these.
The rangers do the best they can but their hands are tied.
Surely we can do better then this.

Dear Sir,
We the public are most concerned about the conditions of Grafton Local pound.
At present the pound is only open for 1 hour per day, between 9 and 10, a total of 5 hours per week, this is ridiculous and not nearly enough time for the dogs and cats impounded to find new homes or be reclaimed by their owners.
Due to such limited opening hours, many dogs and cats are killed each
year in our region.
Currently there are 2 rescue groups in Grafton ,one being 'Happy Paws" and the other "Grafton Animal Rescue", both these non profit charitys do the best they can to rescue Grafton pound dogs and cats in the hope of
offering them the time they need to have a chance of re-homeing.
We feel that the conditions of our local pound should be improved,
with better kenneling facilitys, including more outside excirise area's, and
much longer opening hours.
It would also help if the animals were placed on web-site so the public can view them.
And most importantly, that all cats and dogs be de-sexed before re-homeing from Grafton Pound.
Also access for the public to view the animals impounded.
We would like full discloser of what funds are available for the running of Grafton Pound.
Also we would like the kill rates of cats and dogs in Grafton Pound to
be made public
We realise that funds are limited and that staff do the best they can under the circumstancers and we would be happy to assist with a fund raising campaine or any other way if needed.
