Make Dolphins a protected species worldwide.

In 2007 the United Nations announced that year to be "the Year of the Dolphin".
Their goal was to make sure dolphins are protected worldwide, but also to let the world know about the alarming situation concerning dolphins. The United Nations failed at this & Dolphins are still be hunted & killed in a horrific slaughter. Every year the Dolphins are driven together in a shallow bay. The hunters do this by using metal sticks that create a horrible noise under water so the dolphins will flee in the direction the hunters want. Then the dolphins are deliberately wounded by spears in order to disable their swimming abilities. The wounded dolphins won't be able to swim away and the other dolphins won't leave their wounded family, so the pod stays together becoming an easy prey for the merciless hunters. The highly intelligent and social complex dolphins can't see the nets as the water is turbid. During this horrendous hunt a lot of dolphins die tangled in the nets or the suffocate in the shallow waters. We need to stop this now!

To The United Nations, Japanese Government,

In 2007 the United Nations announced that year to be "the Year of the Dolphin".
Their goal was to make sure dolphins are protected worldwide, but also to let the world know about the alarming situation concerning dolphins.
Inspite the CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) there is still a trade in dolphins captured from the wild. After witnessing the horrific slaughter of the bottlenose dolphins in Taiji cove, Japan, I believe you have failed at achieving this goal. There are enough Dolphins in captivity, and the meat and blubber of the dolphins caught has been found to have high levels of mercurycadmium, the pesticide DDT, and organic contaminants like PCBs, so it is not safe to comsume. Therefore I do not understand how the Japanese Government still allows this hunt to take place. Japan needs to pass a law against Dolphin hunting, shut down all Dolphin bases where dolphins are literally "packaged" for export - i.e. they are captured, trained and exported. The dolphin capture and export business in Japan needs to be stopped now!save dolphins
