Demand for vets to get better benefits

My name is Cody Watkins and I have not been personally involved in a traumatic event, as I am a high school student, but I may at some point come in contact with someone who has experienced trauma or who has PTSD, because I am wanting to go into Law Enforcement or some type of Armed Forces.

My concern is that vets that have PTSD or other ailments need better benefits. They need help to get back into society after they have been over in the war. America has lost many vets to suicide before they even receive their benefits. Many sit and wait on their claims to be processed and get no help at all. Vets need proper medical care guaranteed to them at the time of their service. These men and women go over and go to war to save us and our freedom, the least you can do is help them get their benefits and help they need.

It is each of your responsibility to help these men and women., There are several ways that this can be accomplished. I have made a list of ways I think we can better healthcare for our vets.

We need to expand care in the community. No vet should have to travel 100’s of miles for treatment. It should be available for them in any community.
We need to get veterans off waiting lists. There are so many that need urgent care and the waiting lists are too long. That is where getting more clinics will come in handy.
We need to make enrollment easier for them. They shouldn’t have to fill out a million papers to get their benefits. They served in our country, their information should already be on file and they should be allowed to have full benefits whether they were discharged honorably or dishonorably. It is proven that a lot of those dishonorably discharged had some form of depression or PTSD.
We need to have a variety of programs to help those with PTSD or other mental illnesses caused by the war.

It is up to you as the government and VA to help these men and women. You make the laws and you were elected to enforce them. I would hope that for those that have given their life for your freedom, you might go a little above and beyond to get them help.

Respectfully,
Cody Watkins
