Boycott Retailers Who Will Be Open on Thanksgiving Day

Thanksgiving Day is the one day each year that Americans focus on being thankful. I am opposed to this day becoming a retail event! Also at issue are the employees of these retailers who are being denied the opportunity to celebrate Thanksgiving in any semblance of a traditional manner.

If you agree, please enter your name and pass this on to your friends.

I am committed to boycotting, for the rest of the year, any retailer who opens for business on Thanksgiving Day.

According to about.com, 200+ retail companies were open on Thanksgiving Day 2012 and even more are expected to open their doors this year.  Walmart, K-Mart, Target, Macy's, Kohls, Beall's, J.C. Penny and Sears are just the tip of the iceberg.

I am not extending the petition to drugs stores or grocery stores.

Dear American Retail Corporations,

Thanksgiving is a day to be thankful for many things. A great sale at Walmart or Target should not be one of them. There is plenty of time for you to make a profit off of us between Thanksgiving and Christmas, please don't try to pull us away from our friends and family on Thanksgiving Day.

Your employees would like to spend the day being thankful in whatever manner they choose. You will already be taking your Christian employees away from their loved ones on Christmas Eve -- why do you have to take Thanksgiving away from them as well?

Because of your decision to make Thanksgiving a day of profit instead of a day to be thankful that you have a successful business and loyal workers, I will not be shopping at your stores at all this holiday season.

Who knows, by the time this shopping season is over I will have found other retailers that I am thankful to for their respect of American traditions.

Happy Thanksgiving,

Debbie McKean and friends
