City of Reno & Vegas, Nevada - Ban Use Of Animals In Shows Like Those At Harrah's Casinos

There has been some recent controversy with a Magician Dirk Arthur performing at the Harrah's Casino, using and abusing "his" lions and tigers as part of his act. This has been an on-going problem with a diligent battle on the part of Mr. Arthur. We need to ban his use of these big cats in his acts!

A few years back, PETA was working to stop a magician named Dirk Arthur from using big cats in his so-called big-cat Wild Magic Act. The U.S. Department of Agriculture cited Magician Dirk Arthur at Harrah's Laughlin for multiple violations of the federal Animal Welfare Act. At the time, he was cited for the use of lions and tigers that were kept in tiny enclosures. PETA states that he is faced with a history of multiple violations and believe without help and further legislation, will continue to do so.

Arthur's remarks are that "It's a magic show, I'm a magician. It's not a circus act. There's no whips or anything like that. I hand raise all the cats, so they are raised with a lot of love. I respect that people are concerned about animals." On the other hand, PETA has proven that these animals are treated very poorly and endure a great deal of abuse at the hands of this "magician." Not only were the animals kept in severely tight quarters, they were painfully declawed, one of the cats was found living in a rusty cage while another was chained up. The process of declawing these animals is a procedure that involves amputating bones and has been prohibited for nearly a decade.

This magic show with Mr. Arthur is scheduled to open again and continue his performance using wild cats, despite all his recent citations, because Harrah's continues to let him perform. PETA reps state that “Harrah’s apparently hates animals and loves lawbreakers, because Dirk Arthur’s despicable history of cruelty to big cats and public endangerment should place him off-limits at any venue. PETA is asking all kind people to stay away from any place that hosts such a despicable act." PETA is also asking for any public help and documentation witnessing the abuse of any animal by this guy so that he can be convicted and put a ban on the use of such animals in shows like those at the Harrah's Casinos!

City of Reno and Las Vegas, Nevada - It is common knowledge that this Magician Dirk Arthur continues to use and abuse animals just to use them as an entertainment feature. These large cats belong in their own natural habitat, not in a tiny, rusty cage. Please stop this guy and any other performers from using any and all wild and exotic animals in their shows throughout Nevada. This is very unfair for the animals that are held cruelly in captivity and harshly, abusively trained. Please ban use of animals in shows like those at Harrah's casinos.
