The National Commission on Forensic Science, founded in 2013 under the Obama Administration, included a panel of 30 professional advisors who were helping to revolutionize forensic science in America. They promoted evidence-tested techniques for collecting and analyzing evidence to make criminal justice more reliable, and more ironclad.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions says he wants to kill the commission and take their work in-house. Scientists argue that the commission's independent nature was what made it so effective, and that they should be allowed to keep working, improving law enforcement practices on the federal, state, and local level to benefit public safety, the common good, and law enforcement agencies themselves.
