PETITION TO DENOUNCE N.C. GOP AND FLOYD BROWN EXTREMIST ADS

We the undersigned call upon Senator John McCain to insist even more strongly that the N.C. GOP withdraw its new attack ad against Senator Barack Obama and his two endorsers, gubernatorial candidates Beverly Perdue and Richard Moore. If the N.C. GOP fails to do so, Senator McCain needs to disassociate himself from any campaign activities this party conducts on his behalf. In this matter, we ask Senator McCain to demonstrate the leadership and integrity that has made many Americans think of him as a hero.

In addition, we demand that he exert all due influence to stop any of his campaign surrogates or donors from helping Floyd Brown to televise his new Willie Horton-style ad, in which he conflates Senator Obama with gangs and terrorists.

We also solicit Senator Hillary Clinton to speak out against these emotionally charged and negative ads, and we encourage her to help elevate the ethical standards of this election year debate. Finally, we ask both democratic and republican party leaders to denounce the use of extremist propaganda in these and any future campaign ads.

While we condone honest debate based on political records and qualifications, in opposing Senator Obama, rivals have relied almost solely upon ad hominen,guilt-by-association attacks to argue their case.Such attacks do nothing to affirm their own strengths and everything to demean the democratic process.

This petition will be circulated to interested individuals and groups for signatures. Then it will be emailed and posted to Senators McCain and Clinton, and to Linda Daves, Chair of N.C. GOP, and her direct staff; to the the leadership of the democratic and republican party, and to MSM outlets.
