When going through a trial for rape, the victim was told that she could have closed her legs if she did not want sex with the man who attacked her in an alley in Wellington, New Zealand. The rapist was a Mr. George Jason Pule and his wonderful, advisable attorney was Keith Jefferies. Mr. Jeffries says that the victim only claimed rape after she regretted the consensual sex and "All she would have had to do was to close her legs closed . . . it's as simple as that. Why didn't she do that? The reason she didn't do that was because the sex was consensual, as easy as that.”
The case revealed that Mr. Pule had a repeat offense of rape in 2011. It is ridiculous that the victims are continually blamed for sexual acts and rape. How absurd!! All you have to do is keep your legs closed and the rapist will stop and walk away, right? The attorney is saying it is her fault also because she did not fight back, scream and try to get away. Of course, she tried to cooperate just to get it over with and save her life or it could have been a whole lot worse. There is definitely something wrong with this attorney!! As someone involved in the case said, Jefferies comments were "disgusting" and stereotypical victim-blaming that places the responsibility of preventing rape on the victim instead of the attacker. "It's disgusting, but also unnecessary, to use that kind of victim-blaming rhetoric." Of course, Mr. Jeffries states that the comments he made were not his personal view; it was just his closing argument. Either way, it is a ridiculous comment to make as though the victim is on trial and not the repeat rape abuser and criminal.

New Zealand Lawyer Keith Jefferies – There is definitely something wrong with your logic! You obviously don’t have a mom, sisters or daughters that this could have happened to. How on earth would “closing your legs” stop a rapist from attacking? “Oh you closed your legs, I will just let you go and walk away.” Right!! If anything, it would only make a rapist angrier to the point of harm or even death to the victim. Start punishing the perpetrators and not the poor woman who are victims! A woman does not stand a chance with logic like yours!!
