Support the EU Ban on Battery Cages

Target:
The Rt Hon Hilary Benn MP
Sponsored by:
We, the undersigned, call upon the Rt Hon Hilary Benn MP, Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, to show support for the EU Ban on Battery Cages (Laying Hens Directive 1999/74/EC) within the European Parliament to ensure that the ban comes into force by 2012 as promised. The welfare of over 200 million egg-laying hens in the EU is severely compromised by conditions in the modern barren battery cage system and any further delay in the move to alternative systems would be unacceptable.

No excuses anymore. The EU doesn't do enough when it can and should but gets involved when it shouldn't. Let free range eggs be the precedent for making ALL produce organic.

I don't buy anything other than free-range eggs, and I'd be extremely pleased to take the choice of battery farmed eggs taken away from the barbaric and ignorant.

This is inhumane and unexceptable, its disgusting the way some people treat living animals just to make an extra buck.

The injustice and cruelty of these cages have been known for long enough, it is now time to put compassion before capitalism, the money saved in the long run could be phenominal. And in the end - don't free range eggs, and hens, taste better for that little extra that you pay for them.

Please help those animals. They ask nothing from us and we torture them as long as they are alive. This is wrong. They have physical and emotional senses. They are living creatures. You can change things if you really want to. I hope you want to. Thank you.

The ultimate would be if everyone just became vegan, but until that day comes then this horiffic practise should be made illegal. Just another horror in the endless list of cruelties that the human race inflict upon animals, no species is safe from our arrogant greedy perverted sense of superiority.

It's easy to make a difference, if we all make a little effort.
