Protect The Oceans and Marine Conservation

Take Action to Support Marine Conservation

Take Action to Support Marine Conservation

Right now, you can speak out in favor of historic marine conservation.
President Bush is considering whether to designate two of the most spectacular and pristine marine areas the Central Pacific Islands and the Mariana Trench as national marine monuments.

Together, the new reserves would make up the largest protected area on Earth. They would protect largely uninhabited island oases in the Pacific Ocean with millions of seabirds, rare sea turtles and fish.

Send an email: Urge President Bush to protect these marine treasures.

I support two new national marine monuments

 Dear President George Bush;
Thank you for your leadership on oceans and for considering increased conservation of two of the most spectacular and pristine marine areas -- the Central Pacific Islands (Baker, Howland, Jarvis, Johnston, Kingman, Palmyra, Rose and Wake Islands) and the Mariana Trench.

These areas are unique gems worthy of national attention and discovery, and I urge you to designate them as marine national monuments.

I further support FULL protection for these ecosystems, meaning preventing extractive and damaging activities including mining, drilling, and fishing.

These areas include the most pristine coral reef ecosystems on earth and are teeming with wildlife including seabirds, sea turtles and large fishes.

Full protection within the exclusive economic zone will make these island oases and coral reefs more resilient to environmental damage, so they can persist for generations to come.

This is critical for conservation and would cement your ocean legacy and work on ocean conservation.

Please act quickly to establish these new marine monuments.

Thank you.
