Dear Don McRae,

    I am writing you to say that I believe child support money is meant to ensure a child’s well-being , and I demand that you end the policy of clawing back child support payments from single parent families receiving income assistance.

Facts:
- According to Stats Canada’s most recent data, 49.8% of BC children in single mother families are living below the poverty line.

- Income assistance rates have been frozen for 7 years

- The Government of BC clawed back 18.4 million dollars in child support payments last year.

- The Family Maintenance Enforcement Program takes in an additional $1.5 million in penalties for missed payments per year, which is added to general government coffers.

Mr. McRae, it is unconscionable for the government of BC to balance its budget on the backs of the provinces poorest children.

  Ontario and Quebec are also doing this !! Is it a form of stealing from the poor children to spend on luxuries for others.Human rights lawyers in Canada should be ashamed.They are entitled to this money not to be punished .18.3 just to start.   Law anyone?
